OW40 oil

So, as the snow is gone and I have to change my oil... Whats the consensus? 5w30 Full synthetic or 0w40 full synthetic. Whats everyone running?

Want a good 5-30 that can be bough at reasonable cost at even Wal-Mart, use the Quaker State full synthetic Ultimate Durability. Ranks very-very high on 540Rat testing/blog. I wouldn't use a 40 weight in the 998 myself as it will rob some HP from it vs a 30 weight oil. Seen that first hand before unfortunately.

What about the 5 weight? I thought the 0 weight was more crucial on extreme cold starts, dont we want 0w30

The difference between the 5 and the 0 is minimal, but the cost is much more.
5w-30 is much easier to find.
I couldn't even find 0w-30 this year unless i ordered it.
I think 0w-30 is good to -35 and 5w-30 is good to -30.
Not enough to debate over unless you live in an extreme Arctic environment.

OR, you have OCD!

What about the 2 Orings/washers, should I change them out? If so, what's the part numbers? This is my first oil change.

Do a visual inspection, but that 0-ring usually is chewed up. I use the copper washer over. Don't over tighten the drain plus when re-installing.
Also, try not to get oil on the foam under the muffler.

0-30 Mobile One is not rated very high on Rats testing/blog for wear like the 0-40 is.

The difference between 0 and 5 weight is not that important if that's what you are worried about. I'd go with a higher rated oil for the 998 but that's just me. Prolly better than the 0-30 Yamalube at least.

Rubber o ring for oil tank drain plug
8JP-RAF05-00-00, copper washer for engine drain bolt 90430-06166-00. Engine bolt washer will be fine to reuse, order a few o rings for the oil tank as they are good to have on hand.
