P1338 code

It seems to me that there is a thread out there "who has had starters go bad" with about 35 pages. There were several of us on that thread who's starter issues began after the 15 reflash. But speaking strictly from my own experience I never had starter issues for 3000 miles until after the 15 reflash. Then all hell broke loose. Since I got the EVO reflash I haven't had one bad start. I'm just sayin.

bbquadrider - If you want the 15 flash, I will trade you ECU's for your 14 ECU. This ECU came out of Buddah's sled with no issues.

I want an original 14 ECU that has not been reflashed and will trade someone my 15 ECU

Anyone know what this code means.comes up and sled won't start...fires up after I let it sit a few minutes more

Another thing.... is if this happens again....do this process.

Say the sled gets the code or doesn't start (called a hot start)

1- turn key off, wait for gauge pod to fully clear out

2- turn key back on without starting

3- press throttle 1/2 way and release

4- turn off ignition and wait for gauge to clear once again.

5- turn key on and start sled

Isn't the entire point of doing the flash so that you don't have to hop on one foot and wave your magic wand at your sled to make it start when your out in the woods? Seems like unnecessary frustration when you can just get it fixed. I realize SOME people may have had issues with starters after the flash but you have to remember how many vipers are out there and how few on the grand scale have actually had this happen.

That deal may work for me but I think I'll wait till the season is over before I deal with it

No worries man, This is my extra ECU as I have 2 of them..... so if you are interested, let me know come spring. But remember, you can re-flash yours to the 15, but you can't go back. I want the 2014 ECU for racing and testing....but I can't go back.

I posted the cure to help so people don't have to wait minutes out in the cold, in line at a gas pump or have their buddies pissed off because they have to wait. We have all been there where everyone is ready to go and 1 sled doesn't start.

Yes, but there are people that had problems after the re-flash where their sleds don't start at all. Your comment "Seems like unnecessary frustration when you can just get it fixed" doesn't hold water, because Yamaha doesn't even know what to do anymore....they haven't "fixed" the issues people are having.

Every one of these Vipers..... starts, runs and performs different then other Vipers, they all have their own quirks and they shouldn't. I have the EVO flash and mine starts and runs perfect. Mine ran perfect when it was the original 14 also. I had major problems when I re-flashed and luckily didn't take out a starter. I couldn't even back it out of my trailer from popping and misfiring soo bad, EVO did the Stage 4 flash on it and it's back to running and starting great! Bought this other ECU and put it in my sled and it started better and ran better, but still had some issues and is also a 15 re-flash....so you tell me what the difference between 2 ECU's that have the same flash? Why would 1 run good and 1 not?

I think the starter failure poll rode at about 15% for a while then drifted down towards 12%. I have a 15 build with 15 flash. Starting is OK but not confidence inspiring , idle "rolls" due to an apparent richness, and off idle stutter's, pops, and takes off as you approach engagement. Most of the low sped stuff can be handled with a fuel controller which I did last season.

Plan is to test the EVO performance flash and see how that does for me next.

Simple. Bad flash. If that is the case then it should be pursued with Yamaha to acquire a new ECU with a known good flash. Like I said way more people are happier with the 15 flash than those that had issues. I dont have a ECU which has issues or know anyone else that does either or I would help them get it corrected through Yamaha since that would help any others with a issue like that.

You were there to actually witness mine how it ran....was terrible. I tried going back to Yamaha thru TA Motorsports, they couldn't do anything. Then I tried my contacts at Yamaha.... You know where this is going. Yamaha contacted Cat and basically both of them (not in their words, but from another source) called me a liar, which made me stick it out with EVO and get something that worked better. Took EVO over a year to crack it, but I'm glad I was part of the solution that people with the flash are happy now.

;)!

One thing to keep in mind is if you bought the extended warranty, you may want to check and make sure an aftermarket flash won't void it.
