Hi all,
I totally resurrected a 1993 Exciter SX and just got back from a week in Maine. Ran great, brought back a lot of memories. My question is does anyone know if reverse can be installed on this sled?
Thank You

Nice! I had one from 93-97, loved that sled and they still look sexy.

I don't think any reverse can be added. I looked at the fiche for a Vmax and completely different chaincase.

I had two of those...........awesome sled, never should have sold them. As far as reverse goes not with stock parts but like anything, you could make it happen if you spend enough time and money. Not worth it IMO.

I believe the Venture from that year would fit. I have a 91 Phazer with a Venture chain case and reverse works very well. I believe the Phazer and Exiter use the same chain case.

If I remember correctly there are a couple of new holes to drill as the chain case is wider but the center distance from input shaft to output shaft is the same. Some of the mounting holes line up correctly. You would have to trim a slot in the hood for the shifter and shorten the shifter shaft to clear the fairing.

Mount another pickup coil in the right place by the flywheel. If you are good with electrical and with some tweaking of the secondary you could make it RER

Why would you want to? They are light enough that reverse is not needed IMHO. I had one brand new in 1993 and kept it until I bought my 1997 VMax 600 SX.
I switched out the track to a better Camoplast that hooked up better and actually increased the top end being it was lighter. The primary clutch of that era still had the white plastic tower sleeves, not the updated buttons seen in 1995 and the performance was lacking due to binding. I switched mine to a Comet 108C. The motor needed nothing, Yamaha gave this version it's best with improved porting, high head compression (150 psi) and flat slide carbs mounted closer to the intake track but 91 octane is recommended and says so in the manual. There was one exhaust pipe (single) that did increase the mid range pull and had better throttle response offered by Bender Racing and built by Dynoport, which I ran. I dyno'd a good 7 or 8 different sets of pipes on mine. I had a friend with a Dynomite and a retail dealership. That's where all the pipes came from. The Bender proved the overall best with close to the best peak HP but also had the broadest backup torque curve.
That was a fun sled and a real sleeper. Knocked off many bigger CC'd sleds with it. It had throttle response like a YZ 250.
Keep in mind they only made around 1300 of these.
