I work with rubber belting everyday. Most of the fill in products are a waste of money. You can fill it in and it will look good but with the flexing and pounding the track takes it will fall out in a matter of days.
The only way to fix the problem is to prepare and Vulcanize a new pc of uncured rubber in the track. best thing you can do is trim it off . If it punctured through the reinforcement cords then you need to take a round punch and punch around it. This will stop the ripping.
Many people port & stud there tracks and some places even cut the width down and most still work fine.
If it's ripped on the very edge of the track to a open window then the problem is hard to stop with out Vulcanizing .
Good luck hope it works out for you.
A picture might help for us to tell you what to do

Can you tell us the name of the shop, and the process that they used?
People might be able to find something similar locally...
