Just an update...
The heat is on and getting hotter, the Osgoode Residents Association is pushing extremely hard to shut down the KOC. So if you haven't signed our petition yet, please do so. Every signature counts!

amazing! once there was woods. snowmobilers take the time to clear trails. other people start using it, and say 'wow, a cleared trail! lets make it multi-use except ban the people who originally made the trail'.
go figure. as soon as the sleds stop using it, the trail will fill with drifts and will not be able to be used by sanyone.

Very good point! That statement is probably more true than most realize.

Update
Went to the meeting yesterday and I thought I would keep you all informed. There was an especially strong and vocal snowmobiling presence. A representative from a neighbouring club also spoke very well on our behalf, explaining the economic benefits, the involvement of the clubs in our communities and the impact of the closure of any trail. Unfortunately, the whiners were there in full force too. I don't know how it will turn out in the end but I think that it will be the status quo for at least this season.
After leaving, what I got out of this whole thing is that the main player from the residents group has a hidden agenda other than just stopping the noise and pollution from her back yard. Her husband is a cross country skier who has declined requests to organize trails in the area because of the snowmobiles, saying they are incompatible, too dangerous, yada, yada, yada. A speaker later asked why she has been going up and down the whole 27Km length of the trail trying to get people to oppose snowmobiles for the entire length of the trail. Now I can understand those that are asking to have a portion of the trail be rerouted around the village and I consider this a valid and reasonable request (although I don't agree with it) but to hijack the whole trail just so a dozen or so skiers can use it exclusively is just wrong. She even got some woman who lives half a kilometer away from the trail to complain about the noise and pollution. What the heck? Probably a wanna be skier.
There was also the ATV'ers that are trying to get in on this and I don't blame them and can even sympathize with them. The only problem is that their vehicles damage almost all surfaces they run on. It's just the nature of the beast and there is not much that can be done about that. One did suggest something along the line of only portions of the straight trail be used by them and then they would branch off to go into the ditch and mud. Although I don't know how well that will fly, it was a suggestion, which is something not too many were putting out there.
We are trying to include everybody to come and SHARE the trail with as many groups as possible even though we were using it first but other people want it all for themselves. What else can I say?
That's about it but you can help us some more. You can send your comments directly to the city of Ottawa by filling their survey here:

Even if non-residents fill it out, it would show them how much the snowmobiling community is united and that we are tourists too, helping the economy wherever we travel!
Thank you all for your support.
