Phazer 900?!

Here's a question for someone who's more in the know than I am. Why doesn't Yamaha build a 900 twin Phazer? Since the current 500 Phazer is a pair of YZ250F motors mated together, why wouldn't they pair up a couple of YZ450F motors? It seems that this would be pretty simple to do since they've already done it once. I would think if they could build a 900 twin that would put out 130ish HP and put it in the phazer package it might be a fun sled to ride. If anybody knows why they haven't done it already, let me know.

Nytro is 130 hp. I'm sure they feel they have that class covered? The Nytro motor, and the Vector are supposed to be the best in the biz.

i ride a nytro and my phazer back to back nytro sucks unless your on wide open trails when the trails get small and tight its not even fun to ride

From what I understand, Yamaha would want to invest in a twin of that size only if they could snowcross it. Unfortunately with a twin, the RPMs would still be in the high range so a gear reduction system would need to be employed, which is not allowed in SnoX. This would defeat the purpose when the 1000 triple would do the job nicely without the need for reduction.

Thats the ultimate 4st for sure. The feel of the Phazer cant be beat.It is same thing as with the old 2strokes.Triples were awesome on lakes and smooth trails but were always terrible in big bumps. You wouldnt think that the little weight 1 cylinder adds would matter much but it sure is noticable.Someday it will happen.

That sounds like fun but I having flashbacks to the Fusion 900. :o| I know that was a 2 stroke but the enormous bore factor would still play the same role on that poor crankshaft. Still worth a try though!

The phazer engine cranks out ~70hp at a clutchable 8800rpm. So could make 70 hp without gear reduction but you loose the torque gain of the gear reduction. To make a 120hp engine without gear reduction the phazer would need to be In the 850cc range. That's getting a bit on the large side for a twin and be able to keep it from being a paint shaker. A 750 could give us a 120 hp with reduction or a 105 without roughly. I've been kinda expecting a 650 with gear reduction for a true 105hp class engine, a bit more bore and stroke with no more weight. Perhaps some day we will see the return of the Exicter.

That would be great, a phazer with 110-120 horse  this thing needs more power to be competitive

My dad and I always talked about Yamaha making a 750cc Phazer.
A 100hp Phazer would be so sweet. Not a 120hp Phazer cause we already have the Nytro but 100hp in the Phazer would be very ideal. With any added weight from making the Phazer engine bigger, they could shave 10lbs by making a much lighter exhaust keeping the 750cc Phazer right around the 500lbs that the Phazer is now.

One day Yamaha will know whats up and we just might see it :yam:

A supercharger with 2 or 3 lbs of boost would yield about 100hp as well. This should be put into production on the 500cc engine.

i think a 750 cc phazer would be more viable - the bore would have to be about 1 inch bigger, and then you would have to beef up the rod, oh and the crank, and....

wait a minute - i don't think i'd want a $10k phazer - never mind
