I have just purchased a 07 Phazer. Some other 4 stroke riders are telling me I can run 89 octane. Is this true??
Im running 95, never heard of 89 octane :S though i can also run it on 98. I would run it on as high octane as possible

Some even run 87.
I run 91, I have run 87 with no problem when it was the only fuel avalible.

Running a higher octane than what's recommended is just basically pissing away $$$$.
More octane doesn't give it "all the power" people think it does.
My buddy runs 116 in his water X sled because of 10:1 compression and it's purposely built to use it.
I've always ran at least 91 too, except in a pinch like Yamaha said.

it recommends 91,if it encounters low grade fuel, there is a knock sensor that takes care of it,i'm probably the one with the most miles on a phazer here and i've never ran 91 octane, always 89 or 87,never had an issue once in 13000 plus miles

mostly 87-89 for me unless Premium NON-OXY less than .20 a gallon more, the mileage difference between oxy and not-oxy makes up the .20 difference.

I read a post on here about this. So I figured I'd try regular for awhile. I've gone 400+ kms this weekend of riding and the only difference i've noticed is.......well..........wait for it............NUTHIN. No difference between premium and regular. If anything I don't get the puff/pop out the exhaust when I shut it down. Seems, and it could just be me, to have the fan come on a bit quicker than usual too but its' probably just me.
I read the post in the Apex forum or something about premium vs regular....can't remember where tho.

Thanks for your replies I will run what I can buy. If it`s 89 I will add a little octane booster and isopropyl.

87 here most of the time, too. I put 91 in when I can, but it's a 15 mile ride to that gas station.

i just cant see a 80hp 11,500rpm motor not knocking from 87 fuel... i know the ecu can pull timing and add fuel to fight it.. but then it would loose power output.

I don't think it adds fuel, mines the same if not better on 87. Both trail conditions too. 60-90km/h pulls off and on the throttle in the twisties or even the 11,000rpm/130km/h straight stuff.
Did 2 flat out pulls and saw 138km/h on the dream meter on 87.
50kms on Friday using 87
140kms on Saterday using 87
Put over 300 km's on Sunday alone using 87. (never checked the trip when I got home....was tuckered :exc: )
