Hey everyone, looking for a little help with the Phazer MTX. Im having major issues with clutching and over reving. Here's where I'm at. Sled has a Schmidt Bros Stage 2 clutch kit in it . Primary weights are set to stock for sea level as I was advised to do by schmidt bros. Primary is engaging at 4500, i was told it should be much closer to 3000 with this much weight at sea level. If i get on the throttle I hit the rev limiter at about 51 mph and the secondary has only shifted about half way. This is in hole B1. All this at only half throttle. Clutches arn't slipping as they dont get hot and i dont see any rubber on the sheaves or signs of belt glazing. I'm really at a loss on this one. Talked to schmidt bros and they didnt know was was up either...they said everything should run perfect the way i'm set up with a top end of 80ish and not hitting the limiter. The only thing i dont know about are springs, i didnt do the initial set up of the clutch kit as it came with it when i bought it. I've just reweighed for altitude when I brought it here from CO. Primary is yellow green yellow and secondary is red. Thoughts on this? I might try a fresh set of springs as I doubt they've ever been changed...but are week springs enough to cause this big of an issue? Thanks!!

Springs
A smaller angle helix will cause more rpms, too light of weights will cause too much rpm, too stiff of springs in either primary of secondary will cause to high rpm. Also if you have too tight wind on your secondary spring will cause an over rev and similar problems to what you describe.
What helix angle do you have? PM me if any more questions if I dont get back to you one here I am usually in the Nytro section!!

this is the result of my clutch with same kit schmidt stage 2
need change chain case gear or clutch setting?
have 18tooth gear maybe go with 20tooth?

I also went with the Schmidt Bros Stage II kit (involves replacing/installing new lighter gauge primary spring, replacing mid and tip flyweight rivets with machine screws to add weight, and replacing/installing new secondary helix, set to B1 for less aggressive backshifting). Sounds similar to what Skion and MSRX have done.
I noticed over-reving with this kit as well, and have been able to bring RPMs down somewhat by changing my seconday spring setting to A1 and increasing the weight added to my primary flyweights (approx 4.5 grams). I still have some over-reving going on, but ran out of snow before I could make any further changes so it will have to get resolved next year.
Chris at Schmidt Bros has been very good about working with me to get the clutching right, but several attempts with minimal changes has me wondering whether this is the right clutch kit for me. I'll continue to experiment with weight and settings next year, but only to a point. If results are less than stellar, I may seek advice elsewhere (Ulmer or Hartman).
