Phazer snow buildup issues and pics

I had that problem on my 97 phazer (fan cooled so no coolers under the running boards). All I ever did was just knock the ice off everyonce and a while. Not a big deal.

Exactly... I think this is becoming a mountain out of a molehill. Time will tell. All the pics I've seen of snow and ice on the tunnel is nothing greatly out of the ordinary from other sleds I've owned...

I have also had a fan cooled phazer but i cant remember it had rear exhaust... Problem on this pz is caused by snow melting on exhaust and the water who is dripping down on tunnel spreading everywhere.

Think if the hole is closed we still have problem with snow turning to water and spread all over the backframe..

I think yamaha have been thinking weight here because of the missing heat exhangers under the running board and backframe. Looks good hanging in the weight in the show room but on snow it will be more heavy with all the snow and ice than the heat exhangers in the backframe would add in weight.

my 99 phazer had bad ice build up on the running boards too...you're gonna get snow on the back of your body on any machine...my sxr i had last year would cover the whole backside of my body in snow dust...big deal

I think it's all boiling down to the fact that they all do it. The Apex and Vector (just to name a few) are basically set up the same way, but you can't see it. The lack of heat exchangers in the running boards just make it more obvious on the PZ, and it won't go away in cold weather.

Again, the Yami mechanic said the engine in the PZ puts out really high EGT's, so keeping it cool has its problems, especially if it was all enclosed (read: closed "hole"). His open pipe gets really hot, so the muffler gets even hotter. Interesting though, he told me not to spend my money on the side shields from Yami.

wonder if this would help.ithey are not installed yet, just sitting there but it should deflect snow on the muffler and keep some of that snow from going out,not sure on the look though, made that today at work out of aluminum sheeting.these could be painted for looks. i think yami deflectors are expensive.need opinions.

They look good. My only suggestion would be to try the flange on the inside, just to clean it up a little. Don't know if they'll look better but thought it may be worth trying.

look good, the one's I fabricated monday night is similar. I and just polishing them today, I will have pics of mine up tomorrow.

I bought the expensive Yami panels. I'll have them installed by the end of the week. Will post pics. (Hey, I got money to burn.......what the heck!)

(Can I have some? ha, ha)

I've been reading and looking at these pictures of the tunnel. Looks like everyone is building a normal tunnel!!! Yamaha should have not cut the weight and enclosed the sides. I think they did this on purpose. Think about it. They didn't add the side panels to reduce weight, right? Wrong! They did it to save themselves money! Now they make panels to cover the sides, right? They are now making money selling these panels. They are making more money selling the panels seperate than they would have if they would have had them installed in the first place. That is why they make a fourth wheel kit also! It is all extra money making! ]

Or perhaps they knew people would panic without riding the sled and order them when they might not need them. If what you were saying was true they'd not have included tunnel protectors in on sleds before the Phazer because they'd be looking to make that extra buck. That's been a pet peeve of one of my buddies who rides Polaris.

I think a remolding rear fairing, with plastic that reaches the tunnel, would look sweet... although those alum shields you made look nice, I don't think I need em yet.
