Getting new Apex xtx. Should I pic the track or leave alone? All riding is on groomed trail. All prior sleds have been pic'd but were only short tracks.
Thanks for all the replies to my earlier thread on '13 or '14, that one will come down to price.

I went with the Ice Ripper. Pre studded track, for mine.
Less chance of damaging heat exchanger and no need to worry for damage to the EXUP under seat there.
Its really a matter of preference.

By pics i assume you mean studs. If you are only going for hard pack groomed trails then go for the studs. Just put it the back of you mind that you could put a hole in the exchange. Just get off the trails and into that powder, once you go powder you wont go back.

Yea, I meant studs.
Stud it and do the tunnel protector mod and you won't have to worry about Exup or heat exchanger damage.

Until you throw a stud then it will probably take out the front exchanger, but that is after many miles.

When my buddy had a studded track it was a dream on the trail. That 2 stroke had braking like it was a 4 stroke.

I have run my 144 apex(though older) both ways, and I prefer my ice attack track. I put on a 1 1/4 this last winter with a 2/4/2 pattern and I did not like it. too much traction. I will be changing it back. I love the ability to break it loose in a corner.

With 144 track I would try without studs for the first couple hundred miles, have 2 Apex XTX's with 10000 miles on each, I came off of short track studded T-cats. IMHO

I would recommend you ride it 1st and see if you want to stud it. It might be fine as is but only you can say that.
I personally do not run studs. I have run an ice ripper on my previous rx war and did not notice a huge difference in packed conditions over stock track. With loose snow on ice it did make a difference but I elected to stay stock ripsaw when I replaced the track on my current ride.

I run a Camoplast Intense 136" on my turbo apex with no studs. On the lake it sucks but everything else it's great.

1.5 Camoplast Crossover on my Apex XTX. Well over 10,000 miles on this track in 3 different sleds. Replacing it this year just for piece of mind. Works great everywhere except bare ice. No studs and I don't anticipate ever studding a track again.
