I removed the reverse and warning stickers from my GT last night (what a pain...tough #*$&@ glue they use).
I then put my Michigan registration (big ugly red thing) just under the seat on the tunnel.
Does anybody know if that's legal? The back of the sticker only said it had to be on the front left and right. I'm not sure where I'm going to put my trail permit yet either...but I sure don't want it on my windshild!

I put my trail permit on the airbox cover just in front of the windshield. You can see it but it doesn't detract, much.
While you could get some grief about your registration, they're typically more worried about whether you have it at all than where you decide to place the stickers. Placing them on both sides of the machine where they can be seen and not blocked by your boots or something should be in the "spirit of the specification".

The registration numbers have to be on the front cowling of engine cover in all mid-west states. I got busted in the UP last year with my old 700. Its registered in PA and they put them on the tunnel and that wasnt legal in MI. I was just in the UP on Sat. New trail sticker on the air box and it fell off before we left the parking lot. It wont stick to that plastic. I had to use rubber cement and put it on the engine cover. I am changing the windshield and didnt want to have to buy another.

I put the ugly Michigan green sticker as low as I could on the windshield and put the registration the big ugly red and black one on the one flat place on the front side panels. I first cleaned it with alcohol and then heated it up with a heat gun and it stuck like a SOB. I put it there on my RX-1 and it never came off. If you do it right you'll be fine but you WILL get busted for having the registration on the tunnel. It say's right on the back of the sticker backing that it must be on the front sides of the sled.

That's what I was afraid of. Does anybody know how much the ticket is?
I'll also have to carry a box of powdered donuts in the storage area.

I stand corrected, thanks guys.
As for the trail permit, I used the alcohol and hairdryer method so I hope it stays stuck.

Go to the local steel supply, get a piece of 16 or 18 gauge aluminum. Cut it the size you'll need for your stickers. Th only place I could find to put it was on the side right over the crease. You'll need to bend it in the middle to match the body line. Dill 4 holes for the pop rivets. I used 3/16" x 1/4" with backing washers (probably overkill). Works perfect! Even fit both NY & Pa registrations!

I would get a duplicate set of stickers. If you get stopped the DNR or Sherfic will hold you up check registration along with everyone in your riding party could give a breathizer test. Possible question the noise of one of the sleds. Could end up losing an hour or so riding time. Could end up being a be hassle.....not worth it! Some of those small towns officer have a strong dislike for snowmobilers because of the complaints they get.

Thanks for the tip snowraider...I ordered a couple packs. I ride a lot in Ontario and in Michigan, and my buds from Ontario come here...makes for a big mess on our sleds with stickers.

Sounds like you have your answer. Food for thought:
I just spoke to the Chippewa County, MI - District Court:
Trail permits are to be centered, and placed in close proximity above or below the headlight (not the nose, or bumber, etc...)
Registration stickers must be applied on both sides, of the forward half, of the cowl, above the foot rests. NOT THE TUNNEL, UNDER THE SEAT.
Riding without a trail permit = $70
Riding with an improperly placed permit or registration sticker = $70
However, you may be asked to purchase and place or re-position the stickers as required, take a picture as proof, and present it to the local majestrate, and they may waive the fees.
