Hi everyone here is my situation I am depressed. Took my apex mxc 270 10 or 12 psi for an oil change it ran perfect . They didn't tighten the oil reservoir drain bolt. One ride good second fell out right away drained all the oil out and then oil light and shut down went to limp mode towed it back to the dealer they changed the oil and said they checked it all over and it's good to go.......
So I go sled had no power blow off not making its usual squiggly sound when off throttle and it was minus 22 it overheated withing 4 km . I ran it and let it all warm up to be sure the blow off wasn't frozen and it was warm took it off and it moved good with a medium thumb press. There is some oil residue in the intake not lots more like a film. Also the sled would give small burst of power well going like 5 kmph I almost fell off not expecting it. Throttle is not stuck an moves free and snaps back good. Also seems the turbo might be a bit louder at idle making a shhu shhu shhu noise at a continuous speed on the gas you can't hear it. I think I heard that before when it ran good but seems more pronounced now might be grabbing at straws though. Could my turbo of been damaged when I lost my oil . It was making 3 or 4 pounds struggling . It should not of overheated I have two the other one was fine and they never overheat.
Thanks everyone !!!

If the engine lost oil pressure while at operating rpms it has to come apart and be inspected for damage, especially the rod bearings.

You think the cause of all these problems is a internal bearing. The overheating, no boost power, random burst of power well going slow. It seems like so many weird things at once a computer problem. The dealer claimed to listen with stethoscope for knocking or strange sounds. And said it sounded great. Who knows how much of this was true

I do not know your entire scenario, but if the engine was operating at over 5000rpm when it ran low on oil pressure (engine only shuts down when the oil pressure switch senses VERY low oil pressure.......less than 8 psi) there is very likely internal damage.

I can see that I hope not! I think the turbo would take damage faster then the motor I could be wrong . Now what about the dealer ship that caused this problem I feel like I am going to get totally screwed here

If you lost all oil pressure it will shut off and flash code 30 (low or no oil pressure) if I remember correctly and you will need to hold the throttle open to restart or it will run only for a second and shut off again. I had this happen once with no damage. I would take it to the dealer and have them varify oil pressure and then look for a throttle body boot off or major boost leak. The intercooler's are a real pain to get on! That would cause low or inconsistent boost and power loss.

Would that also cause it to overheat ? I did think the sound at idle shh shh shh was a bit odd maybe that's the sound of a boost leak.

A boost leak wouldn't cause it to over heat. Maybe there's a pinched coolant hose? I guess anything is possible!

All this because I got an oil change and they didn't tighten the bolt I hope my turbo isn't blown. My sled has left me stranded 3 times in 3 years all three were the day I picked it up from the dealer.. . Thanks kelowna yamaha

That sucks for sure! Turbo's do require more attention to detail and I sure wouldn't trust all dealers with mine!

Could be a lot of things but being they had the intercooler off to change the filter I would start looking in that area for a hose off or somthing in that area disconnected. I would be on that dealer like stink on #*$&@ and make them make it right! If the Turbo was damaged or somthing worse it needs to be there problem! Maybe even get them to give you a sled to use till it's right!

If it was my sled I would call Yamaha and tell them your story. Also a shop that can't tighten up a oil pan bolt when it is there for an oil change wouldn't get any repeat business even for warranty work.

Well than he's on his own because there's no one else including Yamaha that's going to stand behind some one not tightening up a drain plug!

One thing at a time. Start with the overheat. Can you verify the coolant is circulating? Are the exchangers hot? Is there enough coolant? Try to isolate the heat. If its a MCX rear mount the coolant system should be stock and nothing to do with the oil issue.
Not making boost? Shut the sled off and remove the intake on the turbo and carefully spin the impeller does it spin freely? If so then your turbo is fine and you have a boost leak. I would remove the intercooler yourself and check the boots and reinstall it properly. That may very well fix the surging.
The apex low oil warning will save the engine so I wouldn't jump into opening up the engine just yet, you may have to but it should run fine in the meantime.
Get the overheating solved and R&R the intercooler yourself (it takes time and no need to pay a dealer for it) and check everything related to the IC. Also look for any cracks in the IC near the welds or anything. You need it to be sealed and not leaking. Good luck.
