Some of the ugly factory stickers weren't coming off of my RTX with the old hairdryer method. I did a search and found that several people had mentioned a product called "goof-off" to remove difficult stickers. Well it worked fine on the alluminum tunnel but when I used it on the decal below the gas cap IT BURNED A HOLE IN THE FINISH OF MY NEW RTX.
AAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG F*#@& !!!!!!!!!!
Can you feel my pain?
Any suggestions? Anyone have a good sticker idea that would look good in that area where the fuel requirment sticker normaly is? You can't see it in the picture but it also burned away some of the finish on the left side under the gas cap as well (disregard the small white spots - they are just wax). IF the RTX black paint is available yet I supose I could remove that panel (it's fairly small) and have it repaired and painted at a shop. Any suggestions (and sympathy) appreciated.

I usually just use gasoline or paint thinner to dissolve stickers. You would end up spilling gas there anyways, so it would fall under warranty if gas ruined the finish there.
The stickers on RX1 were a lot less invasive. Just one above the reverse handle, and on the opposite side.

I know the first marks and scratches are the hardest. At least you haven't smashed it, thats worse yet. Good luck with your fix, sorry, I don't have any recommendations.

That really sucks. I don't have my GT yet, but the tank bag looks good on the GT's. I would get a cost to do it right and refinish.

I have always used 3Ms adhesive and trim remover. A auto paint store told me always to use that becase it wont hurt your paint and it is made for this purpose. I have suggested that folks use it in every thread on this, other than that, what can I do??
So very sorry, why dont you price out a new panel? It may not be all that spendy

Take some paper and make a template of the shape in front of the seat just below the gas filler and take it over to a place that makes Sticers/decals and have them make a black or carbon fiber look-sticker to cover up the scratch..
This way it would also act as a anti scratch protector

Id never use goof off, enamel reducer is easier on paint. Goo gone IMO is the stuff to use, its citrus based and can be used on most any surface.
