I was reading the Apex manual and it says to change plugs each season. I was wondering what people with the R1 bikes and other small cc 4 stroke high reving motors do.

I have certainly not changed the plugs in my 4 stroke cars and vans that often and can not remember the last time I fouled a plug in a 4 stroke.

I suspect in the fall I will change to the '10' plug and change them but not sure if really needed.

I have never seen a Yami 4 stroker -especially with Fuel injection- foul a plug...........have others?

Thanks Yamadoo

Had a similar post I lost later found with the search in RX section sorry

I have! I fouled one of my 10's last season up in Maine. We were following many tour groups and speeds were 10mph and less!!!! It was very unseasonably warm that day too. Allen Ulmer sais he'd never heard of that before and we didn't know what caused this, anyway I put in the stock plugs back at the cabin and ran them the rest of last year. This season Allen sent me 4 10ek's and i put them back in and haven't had a prob. yet.

i just changed mine after 3,500 mi., but they were still mine, figured while i had it torn apart for the oil & filter change i'd slap a new set in

Blueme fouled 10s, and it screwed up his trip, 4fighter was with him. I think they worked for hours in a trailer to do a plug change. I know there are some of our brothers that can do it in 10 minutes on the trail.

I'll stick with the Yamaha Motor Corp, and run the plugs they recommend. Snowtek magazine asked Yamaha engineers about the claimed 3-4 HP, and they laughed.

I am 100% stock, with 7,800 miles on an 06, just beat an XP Doo, and the only major problem was the exhaust donut/pipe problem at 7,600 miles. Buddah told me he would gaurantee that my clutch sheaves were grooved like his, so I checked them. They're like new.

Believe half of what you see, and nothing that you hear. I heard that saying 55 years ago.

All my so called junk bushings are still good, and my stock junk skis work great. My junk suspension never cracked, and my junk track is like new, even though I'm studded.

Thanks guys,

I think I will stay with the stock ones then. I do not race often and no longer go to radar runs so I doubt I would ever need the supposed extra HP. I am not certain if I will even change the stock ones.

Anyone foul a stock plug?

RX1 YOOPER LOL I am with you. I have 4500 on my 06 and the wheels are fine the rails are fine, the steering bushings are fine, the ski's with triples and shims are fine. So for that I am thankful, I suspect I do not ride as hard or fast or in better conditions than some having those and many other issues ;)! But I was taught the same line.

I just changed my 03 R1's plugs at the 20 000 mile mark. Should have changed them sooner but after seeing them I Don't feel bad at all, they looked pretty good. I have the 10's in the RTX and no problems in 3000 miles and with a super Q to boot.

May be a dumb question...but whats a super Q? New to the Apex and trying to find what some of you guys are doing to improve the sled.

You asked about an R1, I changed my plugs on
my 04 with just over 15,000 miles. they were the
originals and looked excellent. cleaned them and
put them under the hood of my RX1 for spares.

Thanks I think what I do will depend on time and other issues in the fall sure does not seem to be a must do.
