I've heard that Polaris idlers will bolt right in the skid. I also read on a different thread that you have to machine some of the parts. Is there a direct fit for Polaris wheels? If so, does anyone know what the part number is?

They fit right on. Mine came off a parts unit.

The bearing width is different and the mounts need to be modified a bit for them to ride in the same place as yami wheels

Go Excell wheels. 35mm instead of stock 30mm and they will fit in all positions.

Excell wheels are quite a bit more money. Stock Yamaha wheels are 5.125", and polaris wheels are 5.35". You can get polaris wheels on eBay for half the price.

I don't think it's that hard to mod the mounts. I think they need to be shaved down a bit if you want to go that route. Not sure of the exact details

From what I have seen the difference is 3mm on the bearing depth....stock yamaha is based on a 12mm thickness and others are 15mm. The 15mm will work in some cases and won't (i.e., need modification) in some cases. For example, my Nytro (purchased used) had 15mm front wheels (and was working with no modifications) I discovered this during a Star Suspension install wherein the front most wheels wouldn't go back on. After discussing with Robert (at Star Suspension) he asked if I had aftermarket wheels and filled me in on the bearing depth and I was able to confirm this was my issue. I replaced those aftermarkets with a couple of excel wheels (All others had already been updated to excel so now I'm 100% excel).

I had the polaris wheels on mine and just replaced them all with the kimpex ones (from royal)-with replaceable bearings (6205)
$22 (canadian) a wheel with a new circlip and bearing you can't go wrong and they bolt right on
OD is 5.35"

I would think for the guys in the States they could get the larger Yamaha wheels from Dennis Kirk. They should be the same ones we get here in Canada. No need to get the polaris or doo wheels unless you get better deals on them.

I used the skidoo wheels. when mounting them on the front inside i just cut 3mm off each of those aluminum spacers to make room for the bearing race on the shaft. on the rest i took a washer and put it behind the larger one which made up the 3mm gap. they do ride about 1.5mm out farther when measuring from teh center but the smaller washer under the larger one is the quickest way.

I actually used a mix of Doo wheels and Excells. I used the Doo wheels (as per Grizztracks with Doo mounts) on the ones not mounted on the suspension and the Excells on the suspension, which would have required machining ($$) to fit the Doo wheels.

cutoff wheel and a couple minutes to cut those front aluminum spacers is all it took. a file to clean the edges up and it was golden.
