I discovered a better way to do a job I hate. I wiped tunnel with Awsome all purpose cleaner degreaser. Then I used Mothers mag and aluminum polish. I have one question. Did any of you ever use the the round ball that you use on a drill that was popular a few years ago. It was made by one of the car polish companies, I think.

Mothers made the ball. I have heard a few guys use it. I want to polish mine but the work to keep it looking good is to much of a pain in the #*$&@ for me.

That is what I use. The bower ball and mothers mag polish. You will still have to polish the corners by hand

I hear that you can clear coat the tunnel (not that it is easy) after you polish it to avoid the upkeep.

I have the mother's power ball. It works ok if you wipe most of the polish off first . If you don't the ball tends to get really dirty fast. To clean the ball , I use a plastic coffee can , cut a hole in the top. Fill the coffee can with dawn dish soap and water about halfway then stick the end of the ball though the hole in the cover . Put the cover on the let the drill spin it clean. Take it out spin it mostly dry with the drill, then blow it with a compressor . Works great.
Google, ( shark hide) for protecting after you polish the tunnel.

Once you polish with Mothers it is easy to keep it clean. The pain in the a$$ is getting it there first.Phazernut said:Mothers made the ball. I have heard a few guys use it. I want to polish mine but the work to keep it looking good is to much of a pain in the #*$&@ for me.

I'd like to see the before and after pix of the polished tunnel. I used some Aluminum Bright on mine this year and was pretty happy with the results.

I used the Mothers polish and the ball also. It isnt as good as if you wet sanded but it does a pretty good job. As someone mentioned...after you do it once its easier to maintain and the finish seems to get better each time after. I put the polish on first then wipe it down with a cloth/towel first (by hand). Then I will re-apply a good amount of polish and let the ball do the work. You will get alot of black residue but I feel the trick is to wipe/polish it off by using alot of clean cloths afterwords. If your cloth is black...switch sides or frequently use a clean cloth to bring in the shine.

I don't use any sandpaper. Just fire up the 7" buffer and start with the rough cut compound and work your way up. Sandpaper makes it harder to get around all the rivets, etc because you end up using less aggressive compounds and pollishing methods. Just did an Xtx tunnel for a customer (pics to come), and the majority of the polish work was done in less than a half hour after removing the stickers. I did the belt guard also.
This is roughly the 20th tunnel ive done this way. I originally got the idea from watching how most billet car parts are done, and that I just didn't have 10 hours or more to spend on it.

It is a spray on wash off product. The great thing about it is you can spray it over the registration decals on the tunnel without them being effected. It beats the heck out of using the old wax on wax off method. Just spray it on, wait 10 minutes or so, and spray it off with a hose. Works great in the hard to reach places like the foot wells too! Bought it at the local CARQUEST store. Money well spent!

I use the cotton wheel compound as well just like nate.....did my buddies the other night and if you have 6 or 7 inch wheel and a 2 incher for the tight spots it goes really fast.....did my buddies in a hour. He had his seat off alread. Doesn't take long at all. It all depends how bad of shape the tunnel is really....it could take 5 times longer if there are lots of deep scratches you have to get out.
