i've seen some great pictures of the tunnels polished.
thinking about this for a summer project.
any one advise on how it's done ?
does it take long time ?
did you do the running boards ?
does it last & stay that clean without alot of upkeep ?

mothers power balls work good the small size for tight spots etc.

Takes a good while to complete and more time to keep up ! Pedastil electric motor is what most common used with larger wheels !
Mothers power balls with drill motor would work but
would add alot of time to the job ! Figure 40 hours
with the right set up and twice as long with smaller set up ! It also depends fussy you get and how flat you want the finish !
You will polish it after everyuse or every other for sure ! Yes it has up keep !

the key is to wipe the tunnel down after a good ride with a cloth I think to get salt, dirt,or scoff marks off before it dries on its own.Do the ice wax keep the above off the tunnel or do you still wipe it down?

I did mine in about a good night and a few beers, i used the powerball mini with extension it worked great for the bulk of the tunnel and the extension then did by hand what i couldnt get with the power ball i used a autosoll paste for the first couple coats then a good liquid pollish for the last coat (it was finer than autosoll) then a couple coats of wax to take the haze off and seal it up i got 2000kms before i re did mine (didnt need it just doing a big trip next week and wanted to look good) it only took just over an hour start to finish plus my stock risers i will post pics tonight ps. it is worth every dirty second spent!

I use blue magic and mothers powerball and it takes very little time to do. My tunnel is painted on the rtx so I can only polish the old cats.

Did wife and sons sleds with NANO polish [ eagle one] works great and lasts
Lots of different ways to do it, however if you want a mirror like finish, you need to sand the tunnel first. On my old RX-1, I used 400 then 800 then 2000 grit wet sand paper and sanded lengthwise up and down the running board, then from front to back on the sides (tunnel). Once its sanded then any high quality polish will work. I prefer Mothers or Wizards. Ive also used jewlers rouge. You can spend alot of time getting it mirror finish, I guess it just depends on how deep you want the shine. It is not necessary but if you want it to look like this, you have to.
