Just had my 2005 Vector out for the first time this season, and it seems to be running like crap. I can get the sled up to 5500 rpm (30 to 40 MPH), and then she starts to bog down. In addition, I have to run her with wide open choke, or else it doesn't want to run at all. It starts fine with the choke, and then idles fine without the choke, it is only while under load, that I have to put the choke back on. I pulled the plugs, and all three are firing (slight carbon buildup with it running rich).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Trying running a can of Sea Foam through it first before tearing into the carbs.

If you start your engine every 30 days year around for about 15 minutes, you will never have to clean the carbs and you will never have a starting problem especially when you are ready to ride. You should also use Sea Foam or some other brand during that time to help stabilize the fule system.

X2 on cleaning the carbs & pilot jets. The running once a month never worked for me. Always seemed to get gummed up anyway. I always drained my carb bowls, & siphoned the gas out of the tank. This way I always started with fresh gas every season.

Not a bad idea but adding a can or a decent amount of Sea-Foam once in a while also helps.

I do when I know it is going to be sitting a while and also add a full can before summer storage.
Just make sure you run the sled at least 10 minutes to get it through the system.

Thanks for everyones input...took the carbs apart, and there was a waxy substance in the bottom of the bowls, and two of the main jets were plugged with this stuff. Got it back together, seems to run fine, just need to take it out for a rip , to confirm.

I was just logging on to ask the same question about my same sled although I kinda knew the answer. I put a fresh set of plugs in and it didn't change anything. Starts great, idles fine, but bogs and backfires if you stay on it long enough. It's been sitting awhile. Today's gas is absolute crap.

Same thing happened to my 06 venture all it was a small piece of dirt clogging the one main jet. My carb were spotless inside from using Sea Foam about a can a year. Also you might change the dogs in the secondary mine were worn a lot. My sled had 12000 miles on it.

...i read ya...
With today's to the gallon, all are welcome to piss in the rafinery's tank ...can you say additives ! :-).... and that's only the top of the food chain.

I can't recall back 10-15 years ago guys having all this trouble with gummed up carbs. I've never had any carb problems with any of my older sleds. Is ethanol to blame?

I don't think the fuel is the issue I think it's where and how you store your Machine. Moisture and the enviroment are the main issues.A unstable enviroment such as outside or in a tin shed are the worst. But some of us have no other choice. I have seen alot of gummed up Carbs in my day being in the Motorcycle/ Automotive trades for 20+ years. The main reason is carbs were not drained and they were stored outside. Myself I fill the tank up with Prem. Fuel and drain the carbs. I never fog but it couldn't hurt and I store in a stable enviroment. You could start it every month or so but it's nice to know that there is noughing in your carbs to plug up a main jet a fry a piston. Anyway WE NEED MORE SNOW, HAPPY RIDING
