Ported Head and Throttle body

I did some testing this weekend with the boondocker controller. The sled is running great. I had to reduce the fuel on top about 5% and clutch it 11,000 to 11,100. I kicked the crap out of a lot of sleds including two XP 800 which where not even close. I think I may still be able to gain a little with some more airbox mods to the bottom. Now it is stock with 7 7/16 holes near the stock opening. I am going to open them up to 9/16 to make sure I am taking full advantage of the porting. I hit 91.6 in 660' with trail studs at the radar run. I am also running 87 octane fuel. Ran great even on long runs.

curios

I'm curious why don't you shave ten or twenty thousands off the head, instead of the head gasket split, how much can you get before interference ? I was thinking a decent cleaning, shave the head and change one cam to Dyno rays cam and reach 180 h.p. pretty cheap. Did you change the cams or one of them ?

Splitting the gasket is simply an inexpensive way to raise the compression. You can also get a .010 gasket to bring it up a little more. If you want to spend the money to machine the head you can do that to. I think you can go plenty without clearance issues. If you split the gasket, get Rays intake cam, port the head and get both power commanders you should be well into the 180 hp range. Ray also just made a 40 mm throttle body for someone up there. The stock throttle body starts at 39mm and then tapers to an oval maybe 35 by 37mm or so. I still have the stock cams but I am going to buy the intake cam this summer and maybe have him bore my throttle bodies.

I pulled my head off this past weekend and ported the head, throttle body, header pipes and the boots between the head and throttle body. Everything went well. I have also split the head gasket and will be putting everything back together this weekend. I will get some pics and post them before it goes back together. I am going to put it on the dyno next month. I will post the results. You would be surprised how bad the head looks from the factory. The transition between the valve seats and the ports is very bad. I think there would be significant gains to be had by only smoothing all of the imperfections and not even porting the whole head.

Hey, did you ever get any pics of the project? Are you tuning with a wideband? Did you make the dyno yet?
Thanks

I have a few pics of the porting that I will post. I am not using a wideband. I had a ballpark set up to start with and I played with it to fine tune. I do not think I will Dyno it this year maybe after the new cam.

you can get the cams, porting and anything else through DynoRay. His number is 902-647-2250. If you are going to buy just one cam get the intake. I did the porting myself.
