I have dupont slides on my sled, and the current set has around 8k miles on them. I have noticed that they wear very little, but yesterday reallly looked under there, thinking something has to be wearing. Well I noticed nearly all of my track clips are gone. The track has 16,500 miles on it. So, are the clips gone because of the dupont slides, or are they gone because the track is old? There are no tears in the track, and the lugs are still in good shape. Go back to old style slides? It's a lot less expensive to replace slides, than tracks.

- Which one? I have 6
16,500 miles on a track? Thats good wear. You could get the track re-clipped, but personally I would change out the track. Time for a new one.
I would be extremely happy having that many miles on a track. I believe that 16,500 miles on track clips is amazing because of all of the friction. Plus the gravel and sand that gets picked up by the track. I wonder what the condition of the track is like on the inside like the bonding of the Fiberglass bars to the rubber. I would take a very close look at the track and if all is well reclip. Clips are not expensive if you go aftermarket.

Slimjim2525 I have the same thing happening to my clips, I don't have as many miles on my track or duponts as you but I noticed my clips are wearing more than my D slides,
My clips are turning blue do to the heat,
I do a lot of frozen hard packed road running at good speeds so I can't really complain about the wear, original slides wouldn't last nearly as long as the D slides do,
Considering your miles on your track I think you are doing pretty good,

Get a new track. If you reclip they will not stay on that long. Have recliped many times. Save yourself sometime and buy a New track. Plus buying a New track you do not have to worry about it ripping apart. I will bet if you look it over good you can find some weak spots.

No need for Duponts on the short track Apex if that's what you have. I got 5,700 miles out of a stock set of slides in good conditions. 75% wear in the first 1000 miles. The other 25% took almost 5,000 miles.
OK, thanks you all. A new track it is. Now just a decision. Pre studded or studs added? I keep going back and forth on this issue.

If you have always run studs and are used to them you may be unhappy with an ice ripper. On ice it falls between no studs and studs as far as traction goes.

I dont agree with that.. I burned a set down to the rails on a shorty in 800 miles... Its conditions and track tension the dictates the wear...
Thats why I never told anyone to skip the Duponts on a Nytro XTX because I put on 4000 miles on the first set of Hyfax...

Stick with the dupont slides. They have served you well so far.
As far as tracks, i run an iceripper on my 2002 viper and my 2006 apex and i love it.
It has just enough grab in the icy corners ans stops better than an unstudded track.
Personally i have a love hate relationship with studs. I love them when im riding and hate them when im pulling them out of my heat exchangers.

I have to agree with you, I miss my studs but don't miss them chewing on things and always worried about one going through an exchanger. If I replace my track it will be with a iceripper.

Get a fully clipped track With all the windows open. The duponts don't like to ride on the rubber bar. (that is not clipped)

I love my prestuded I dont like the extra grip of conventional studs maks the sled feel heavy in corners to me but pre studed still has extra grip for stopping and ice and getting moving on ice with out the heavy corner feel. just my .02 ofcourse.
