Putting together a clutch kit

Sounds good!! What other upgrades did ya go with?
other upgrades includes DuPont slides, 135mm idler wheels, 4th wheel kit, ice scratchers cable type, that should take care of the sticking slides and roll along a lot better, rear exhaust elbow, I installed the 2 gal ropax fuel cell it fits nicely on the extended tunnel it will come in handy on those long runs in the back country. thanks

Hey @20/80 how's the update comin!!?? :hide:

I've had tried getting some help with kits with no luck. Looks like I'll be giving your vendor a call, kinda waiting on how things worked out clutch wise. ALSO, your post last year with the "hot clutches" and can I ask what you did to remedy that.
Been watching mine and their very very hot. Both. Going to clean up in the morning after putting my new exhaust shield on.
Your fan come on lots??

Oh and post a pic of that fuel can!! I've come close twice to running out on some long runs. Back up to 165-170km /tank with stock exhaust on. 140-145 with the other one on o_O

I have not got her back from the shop yet, hoping it will be ready today, Chris at SBM is great to deal with great back up service if you need help, I will try to post some pictures of the extra fuel cell mounted on the back, got the idea off this forum as far as the hot clutches I was going to install a vent in front of the clutch cover and one out the back just haven't found the right ones that would look right yet that would justify cutting the holes in the plastic cover. thanks :sled2:

Well I got my machine back and ready to go, going to test my new stage 2 clutch kit and helix from SBM today while breaking a few trails also interested on how the bigger idler wheels and DuPont slides work out also, I will give a review on how things work out. thanks :sled2:

Right in the middle of the "secondary brain child" mod now. But I do look forward to your test with the xtx set up.

I did some testing today, snow conditions were hardpack with a trace of new snow on top half mile straight run, first thing I noticed is my machine has a lower engagement which I like and pulls way harder and backshifts super quick on and of the throttle, but now is running out of clutch at about 108 kms hits 12200 right on the rev limiter, also I seem to have more engine braking than before I think my track tension is to tight, now that I have DuPont slides and bigger 135mm idler wheels it should run with a lot less drag also I'm thinking my mechanic set the secondary spring in the wrong hole set up for this clutch kit he kind of mentioned something to that affect I don't know why he did that, I'm waiting to talk to Chris from SBM he will walk me through dialing the machine in, I'm sure Chris will get the revs down to 11300-11500, other than that I am very pleased with the gains and super quick back shift. thanks

Good to hear it's better.
Just rolled over 6500 on the dial, duponts have been on since the 800 mark and I've beaten on them pretty good with some crappy "lack of lube" days. Well worth the money. Tomorrow is oil change, chain oil and lube so I'll see where I'm at after 550 in two days of plus temps.
I've done a pile of clutch trial and error now. Seems the best comfy trail speed is in the 110 mark with a max, holding it, of 118 ish. I'm sure your xtx dial is bang on with gps (mine is) so what you see is quite accurate. I was hoping you would be out of that 12000 range with the kit right away. Hopefully they can dial you in, with the engine braking you have I don't think unwrapping 10-20* will help your rpm issue and only make the engine braking worse.

My mechanic put the secondary in the wrong setting its in 1-C now should be in 1-A or 1-B max for this kit also I am going to back the tension off on the track alittle and try that, Chris from SMB said that should take care of it if not I will add alittle weight to the primary to bring the RPM down closer to the target power band. thanks

I'm pretty sure wrapping a1-b1 will bring your rpm up higher. When testing my old secondary it would raise rpm up in 3-500 per +10* wrap.
I tried unwrapping as well but didn't like the huge pile of TP (thumper poo) after hard accelerate from stop or the harder engine braking and it "seemed" to take longer to get to speed.
Did you buy the adjustable weight kit from smb? Or rivits.

Yes I have the adjustable weights from SMB, that's where I will go next if the changing in the secondary does not work, start adding weight to bring rpms down

just a update on the dialing in, after moving the secondary from 1C to the 1B position I am still at that 12000 rpm range but still pulls hard super quick backshift running out of clutch to quick, I contacted Chris at SBM and he told me to move to the stock 1A setting also he is sending me some tuning weights for the tips to bring the rpms down, my goal is to make the sled pull as hard it can to 120kms keeping the rpm in the range of 11200-11500 let you know the end results when parts come in. thanks

Which gear are you running? I.e. How many teath on the small one.
I'm running the 17 top stock bottom, I may have to move to the 18 top to get rpm down also but SBM figures we can clutch it for top end. thanks

Any up date on this clutch kit yet??

Yes I had to put heaver weight on the tips on the clutch I think they were 5.3 gram, this dropped the rpm to around 11800 from 12200, still to high on the full shift out of the clutches, my next move is to put secondary back to stock 1A from B1 where I'm at now but have run out of snow for testing, I want the clutches to be fully shifted out at 11300-11500, if that does not work i will either add more weight or move to a 18 gear top sprocket which i feel would be better for less rap around effect in the chain case. :yam:
