I think grader said it best... i have over 8000kms on my attak no probs yet, i am going to do them before my week trip as preventative matanance but i know some guys that go through motors faster than we go through dougnuts so to me its no big deal my attak is the best sled i have rode/owned if i have to do doughnuts every once and awhile its worth it to me easier and cheeper than an engine, i was thinking this the other day we always rebuilt motors aroung 10 000kms as preventative maintanance and i thought that i would normally be getting my engine done but all i have to do is doughnuts... were talking pennies on the dollar hear IMO

BA Apex, how hard was it to take the y pipes off? I didn't need to, but I loosened the clamps and hit em pretty good a few times and they did not budge at the connection...I didn't try anymore, but someday I will have to...

ok they have old style gaskets like asbesttes rap in between the mid and muffler pipes , sometimes hard to get off . Put a long screwdriver thru the holes in the tunnel for clamps and pry lightly on the clamps one at a time easy with the screwdiver prying against the tunnel hole , shoud come off . careful with gaskets 25$ each and can be reused , use anti seize on bolts before you replace .

The job only takes a few hours to complete. I noticed alot more low end torque when done. The pipes slide apart very easy. Just follow direction in Tech section. Only problem I had was the bolts under the oval rubbers. They were stripped out. Had to drill and easy-out it. Heat made the big diff on getting these out. They would not budge without it. 5 grand on mine. 07 Apex. Good luck Honk

Thanks. I may take them off this summer as the two socket head bolts were rusted and I had to drill them out. I might weld another nut on the cross bracket so I can take it apart from the top, if needed.
80 bucks for donuts? I paid less than 10 each (US) for them (extra set) but got the ones I put in free...under YES warranty.

Based on info from this forum, RockerDan in particular, I decided I better check mine (06 Apex ER) at about 6900km last spring, the donuts seemed just fine. As a preventative measure, I removed about 1.5mm from the clamps, packed the clamps with Permatex Gold, have about 8000km now, runs/sounds great. Hopefully I get a little more life out of them by doing this.
My buddys 06 Apex, with about the same kms as I have, went last week. The signs were, his gas mileage went for a crap, and it didn't idle well. You could also hear exhaust noise under the tunnel. Changed his and his fuel mileage improved about 10%. Pipes were still ok, think he caught it in time.

SHAVING clamps is a must so is anti seize for clamps and any bolts that touch the exhaust , remove the bolts and do it if you are there , newer donuts are better and the brackets have improved

I droped off my 08 apex gt at my dealer for donuts to be replaced. Notice the sound change and fuel mileage has gotten bad. The sled has 5400 miles on it. My freinds 07 apex gt with 5500 miles goes in when mine is done for the same problem. Good to catch now before we go to Quebec for our 10 day trip.
