got it home from the dealer, the book says to keep it 8000rpm and under for 160 miles then from 160-500 miles keep it around 10000 under and then its broke in.
just a question , its a brand new machine and at 8000 rpm it only is doing 35-40km per hour is this normal? more or less what are these machines peak rpm, im used to the rx1 and just wondering about this phazers rpms, because for 160 miles 35 km seems pretty slow at 8000 rpm so i thought id ask you guys
thnx

The Phazer makes peak power at approx 11,300 RPM, so yeah, it's normal to turn 8K at 35-40kph. However, the break-in method recommended by Yamaha is not ideal for making the most of your motor in terms of power. For that, see: Motoman's engine break-in recommendations

I agree with OVR40 but I do wonder how stock clutching and its tendency to hit rev limiter affects things?

so these machines do rev fairly high then hey, i was mostly concerned because it was only 1/4 throttle and it would be at 8500-9000 and half throttle was in the 11's already, this still sound normal for a whole half throttle left? seems it would climb in the 12s no problem
I read up a lot about how to break in racingbikes a while back.. Almost everyone recomends driving it like you will be used. Many suggest taking it to the track and break it in rough... Wonder why people are so sensitive with snowmobiles..

I had the same link as above but I'd definitly go for this method.. Screw that driving slow crap!

My last 3 sleds were broke in...hard... as per above read. Vary your RPM's once temp is up, hold it hard, then let off hard... the first 20mins a motor runs it the most critical in break in! do it right... it will make a strong higher horsepower motor.

what model phazer do you have? If it's an MTX then the clutching is WAY off for flatland riding and you need to add quite a bit of weight to bring the RPMs down. Mine out of the box would only do 20-25mph @ 8000rpm which was a pain for break-in. during break-in I did quite a few 2-3 second WOT pulls to very the RPM's alot but kept it under 8000rpm most of the time. I believe they want you to avoid LONG WOT runs for the first 300 miles. After break-in I found out that I could only use 3/4 throttle otherwise It would rev up to the 12,200 rpm rev limiter in a hurry. I ended up adding around 3oz worth of rivet to each weight to bring the rpms down to 11,300rpm and it now runs ~40mph @ 8000rpm. I'm at about 1,500ft alt and also run 19tooth upper gear in the chaincase instead of 17t

As a new Phazer owner, don't make the same mistake that so many others have in the past. It usually starts with a line like, "Hey guys come see my new sled, you have to hear it" Start the engine to let them hear it, and shut it off before warmed up.
Don't do it, you will foul plugs.
One other thing to keep in mind is that the ECU is programmed to limit it in the first 500 miles as well. Not down to 8000 rpm's but I think all will agree that these sleds really loosened up after 500 and after 1000 miles.
Have fun!

after starting the break in with only 40 miles on the new phazer mtx, i loaded it up and took it back to the dealer, every day since i had it the battery goes completly dead, tried a diff battery same thing, and when it starts your lucky if itl start when its -15-20 out without a windchill and it struggles to stay running, dies alot at the start, but stays runnng afterwards, so they can deal with the issues and look at adding more weight to the clutch if needed
