Has anybody ever looked for performance parts for an R1 that would help an Apex? What is the difference between the motors? I've heard something about the number of valves in the head, but other than that, has anybody found anything that can bring 185 horses from Yamaha to the snow? Cams, heads, anything??

our motors are similar to the 02-03 r1 motors
(as i recall same motor with different cams)
the 180-185 hp are the 04-07 and it's a different motor
my 02 put around 150 hp to the rear wheel.
my 04 is 160hp @ the rear wheel and bangs the revlimiter at around 13800

Yeh, we are acually on the upper end of the HP spectrum as far as R1's are concerned. Not sure about the 07 R1, it went to a four valve layout.

Custom mapped 06, with pipes, made 154rwhp and 75ft lbs...
Boz Bros Moira '05 R1
These are just 2 examples of the average 04 to 06, which is a different beast than the 03-down. 03's I've seen dyno from 129+.
I went through about 35 dyno sheets at least on R1 forums...the magazines seem to disagree with me.

So are there any parts that can be used on either bike or sled, weather its cams, pistons, etc?
I want to pull my motor this summer and have something done to it that will really boost the power without looking like its been modded. Does anybody know of anywhere to get some go fast stuff for the inside of the motors?
This summers goal is to do a ton of unseen mods.

I think I would like to buy a spare motor to play with over the summer, to be sure I'm not without a sled next season, and give me time to find the best stuff out there. I would like to build it as bas @$$ as possible, yet be completely unsuspecting. I'm not even telling my riding buddies of my plans!
I do want it to run on pump gas, though. Anybody have a motor?
