Must want to test the Yamaha Warranty Plan....to soon to be doing that yet put some more miles on and let the poor sled at least break in somewhat...Patience Daniel Son

As I stated the biggest Turd/sled that required warrentee work was the only sled I broke in by the book. The absolute most important thing to so when breaking in a new motor is to not over heat it. Over heating a Motor with rings that aren't seated is the kiss of death.

I have to agree and disagree with you and SJ. Yes you ride it hard. But holding it wide open in a race is not good for any break in period. Your just looking for trouble. But riding it hard is a diffrent story because your on and off the throttle. Let that poor engine break in and it doesn't have to be by the book. If done right that engine will rip better. I have friends that will ride a new sled wide open and have to race now there engines just don't perform as well. Ask any engine builder and they will tell you what you can and can't do right off the bat. Just my 2 cents

I don't think holding it wide open for miles is the thing to do, but 1000-1320 ft runs with cool downs in between to heat soak the motor is the thing to do. IMO, you baby it for the first 30 miles, then turn it loose.... JUST DON'T OVER HEAT IT. Because you do, your rings will not seat and your done...

couldnt have said it better...

every sled Ive seen...or ridden that was babied and "throttle varied" and not ridden hard...has been a pooch....and on the fourstrokes even more so with complaints of oil consumption...

all I know on my sled last week... from the start of the day to the end of the day..I gained 300 rpms...so the motor was happy and so was I...
my firends apex which was broke in by the book was a dog...

I guess to each his own..
