You're right!! I rode ski doo for 20 years, and just need prilosec for acid reflux! (Probably from too many ibuprofen from the 7000 rpm cruising drone of some of the piped triples). We all know TY members have higher IQ’s than your average riders, were not falling for the “Best in class handling, Best in class ride quality, Best in class torque, Best in class hand warmers, ect.”
People with weak minds fall for that....
Meanwhile....I’ve heard riding a Ski-Doo cures cancer.
However, recent medical studies show that Sidewinder acceleration actually reduces the need for any medications, and can drastically reduce aging!

quoteI see over on dootalk that the 900t clutch springs have been breaking, the steering freezes up and relays freeze up also but at least they might have figured out how to make the reverse work finally. Even with the 4 stroke in a ski doo, they are still a piece of s%#*.
Lol.
Been a yamaha guy since 2002. Bought a 900t xrs this year that was a demo model so other guys broke it in and beat it before i got anywhere near it.
I Put 1400 miles on this season and had none of the issues you mentioned. In fact i had only 1 issue and its not an issue as much as an irritation.
The sled is so quiet i can hear a rattle from the brakes. Not a big deal, but i hear it. Otherwise the sled has been flawless. Clutching and suspension are both spot on and perfect in my opinion.
I have been a member on ty since 2002 when i bought my first 2002 viper. TY its the best site of any of the 4 brands hands down.
With that said, i could sit here and spew off sidewinder issues for days on end from everything i have read. But in reality we all know that it is not every single sidewinder that has these issues.
I would suggest owning or at least putting some serious seat time on any other brand before reading the internet issues of a hand full of guys and taking it as gospel.
Btw. My sled before the doo was a 2014 viper rtx. My overall disappointment with that sled is what stopped me from buying a sidewinder.
Trust me when i tell you theres a huge difference between reading about a problem on the internet and actually living through a major problem for 4-5 years.
Maybe some day i will be back to yamaha. But until they start putting more yamaha dna into these sleds i will sit back and watch from the sidelines
I was wondering where you went. That 900t does seem to have just the right amount of power compared to a Viper. Talk about that. How is the top end on the wet mushy snow days when a Viper is lucky to hit 80mph?quote

Viper no turbo, should be 80 mph in snow, 600 class motor
It's a bit better than a 600 class but biggest disappointment many Viper owners found is poor conditions poor performance on top along with the Cat glitches. It just needed a little more to not be boring. 800 class. Sidewinder is more than that. Can see why a Viper owner would be happy with just a little more like 900t offers. Just need to see it without a Turbo and built by Yamaha personally. I got it the hard way by modding. Guys like RTX bought that 900t because that class is not offered by Yamaha.Viper no turbo, should be 80 mph in snow, 600 class motor

They should bump it up to 1150-1200cc.They sure could.
Then it could make a solid 160+hp.

What most are not grasping here is that the Doo four-strokes are dead reliable, very well built, engineered and assembled. IMO they are lighter, better built and funner to ride than any Yamaha ever produced in Japan. They never failed to make me laugh and love my my Doo after ever single ride, something I can't say about any other machine I've ever owned including my heavyweight contending Winder. Lets face it, most all of us hate the Cat/Winder at some time or the other. I have a love hate relationship with mine all the time.
The 1200's can and will outrun even a well tuned Apex, the new 900t and even the 850's that are stock of course, yes it takes some mods to a 1200 NA to do that however, it is easily done and has to be done by the owner. The four-stroke Doo's will also last as long or longer than the Japan built Yamahas with actually less issues over the course of its life. Doo builds a fantastic four-stroke, but for some reason they won't build a performance model that will outrun their 800 or 850 two strokes without performing some aftermarket mods to them. The 900 and 600 four-stroke Doos just run and run too. Doo builds fantastic four-strokes, they just need some help to be fast is all.
I wish Doo would get it together with their front end and shock package and put a good high performance powerhouse four-stroke in them and quit the low power, low RPM level BS in the stock four-stroke. Imagine a factory turboed Apex in the Doo chassis with a Cat or Polaris front end on it!

The disposable 800 and 850 sled marketing ploy has worked well for Polaris and Doo to sell lots of engines and or parts and also force trade ups as the 4000 mile mark approaches.
But if they make their entire line-up 'dead reliable' with exciting four strokes then they will fall into the same lagging sales category as Yamaha did as owners will simply keep their 'dead reliable' four strokes longer. What most are not grasping here is that the Doo four-strokes are dead reliable, very well built, engineered and assembled. What you are missing is Doo has the 2s market figured out and they give the 2 strokers what they want and yes they are time bomb engines. BUT Doo also did their homework for the NA Ace 4s and 900t market as well. 4s buyers want efficient 4s engines that are reliable sleds tip to tail and doo and has delivered just that. Yamaha turned their backs on the 150 to 165 hp 4s sleds discontinued theB

Apex and are ignoring that market niche after developing the Apex market with stellar sleds. Currently a buyer only has the Doo 900t from all the OEMS and are running away by default with the Apex market segment. Give Doo some credit for doing their 900t market segment homework. Yamaha needs to address the Apex market void ASAP or lose that niche to Doo. Both AC and Yamaha have the monster hp 4s sled covered very well with the SW and Tcat. Buy a tune and punch up that hp to 300 plus if you want that’s what the power hungry crowd wants and Yamaha has that niche well covered. Yamaha can reclaim the Apex niche market with Textron or on their own but they need to address that market and stop ignoring those customers. Huge void in the Yamaha line up at 150 to 165 hp market.... crying shame. Imo

900t has a LONG WAY TO GO to be compared to an Apex as far as reliability is concerned.
The 2 stroke market figured out? Really? They are junk, they have used false claims and magazine propaganda too advance the 850 2 strokes.
With the technology available today it’s absolutely possible to produce big bore two strokes that last over 10k miles.
Poor manufacturing tolerances and cheap electronic engine management systems are more than likely to blame for the failures, but that’s just a hunch.
What they have figured out is how to Buffalo people into thinking a snowmobile should only last 4K~5k miles.

The current thinking is slow and reliable OR fast and disposable. You can’t have both, well that’s BS.
