The stud protectors shown in that picture are made by a guy named Josh Beauchamp located here in Ottawa. His TY4stroke name is JDMCRX (http://www.ty4stroke.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3707).
His website showing the protectors is http://www.jbauto.ca/3.html.
I know he did have one protector kit available for sale mid winter (I don't think he's really in the business of making these parts in any volume - just made a few extras when he made them for his sled and if he has time is probably willing to make a few more). Note his sled is a Warrior (I'm not sure if those protectors have been tried on an Attak).
Try contacting him here (PM) or through his e-mail on his website.
As to the 121's, my understanding is you don't need to add any tunnel protection - but you definitely do for the 136's.
In my opinion the 121's don't have an overheating problem at all if you dilute the antifreeze mixture down to 50/50 to 55/45 (50-55% antifreeze). I've run my RTX in some extremely poor snow conditions and the light never came on while riding.
From what I've heard (no first hand experience) the 136's run hotter than the 121's and if you really need to be able to run in extremely low snow conditions the rear cooler is needed even with a 50/50 mix.

It seems from some who replied it's still needed if you want to be sure of no heat ups. Although most claim diluteing is fine enough.
It would be nice to have him offer them. I can send in a templete made of solid wood and he could copy it to make a kit.. I don't have a welder or stock but I'm an expert at working with wood..
My friends 4stroke Cat's overheated this year here in Northern NH on one ride I did with him.. My 03 max'z didn't blink an eye..
His dealer said lot's of things to try.. but didn''t line anything up.. His anti freeze is 50/50 . What he said anyway..
I don't want to be in a situation like that again..having to shut down on the trail worrying if I am screwing up the thing..and waiting , waiting, etc.
I'd rather bring out all the bells and whistles since it's a new sled with only 100mi. on it at this point.

I'm not sure if the Attak is like the Apex as far as the ice build-up under the exhaust but if so, the rear heat exchanger all but eliminates that ice build-up.

I believe so. I thought I read it in the post recently running were he gave a in depth review on the machine. He said the ice build up made it heavier and wasn't crazy about that.

I can tell you I experienced ice building up back there when I was riding last, and the temp light kept coming on in the morning and at night when the snow got hard, was alright in the afternoon when the snow was soft. I was riding an 07 Attak.

Based on my experience w/my '06 Attak, your sled will still o-heat w/studs & w/out the rear heat-ex. The only way to resolve o-heating (I've found) is to bite the bullet & install a rear heat-ex. I fab'd. protectors similar to CaptCaper (although his are nicer) & presto: no more o-heating. You can try Water Wetter or changing to 50/50 coolant/water but the best prevention is to install the heat exchanger. Only adding studs will not cure the problem.

My dealer place an 121' cooler on my attak because Yamaha not giving any guidence . Due to ice conditions bottoming out hard, resulting in tearing the cooler out of position and leaking antifreeze. NOT happy. Had to be towed out. Yama does not make cooler designed for attak so I am going to try Warrior cooler.

Yamaha doesn't make any specific RX-1 or Apex or Attak, etc rear cooler. They do make a 121" cooler and 136" or 151" cooler that will work on all Delta I (RX-1, Warrior) and Delta II chassis (Apex, Attak, RS Vector, Rage, etc). There is simply 121" and 136" versions of the cooler.

See my post at the top of this page (or rage man's post a couple of posts up). Send Josh an e-mail or PM. Maybe he has made or is willing to make a bunch of them.

I sent he a email and he replied asking for pic's of the underside of the Attak. I didn't have a cooler installed if that mattered. I sent him the pic's.
I haven't heard anything from him yet. Hopefully he's hard at work..

So what the deal, can I run the rear cooler on my Attak with the 288 studs in my 1.25" Ice Ripper track??
