All 09 4 cylinder sleds have rear coolers now. 3 cylinder Vector sleds had them added in 06. That tells me why I did the right thing adding a cooler to my 06 Attak

a y, there is a thermostat and housing right near the antifreeze reservoir. My light came on and the engine shut off before I had 14 miles on this sled. You won't have to tell me twice to put a rear exchanger on.

Thanks Iceman, I couldn't find my receipt but I remember Bruce @ Pioneer being way less expensive than my local dealer on the Apex rear exchanger.
I believe that it was a genuine Yamaha OEM part at about half what my dealer wanted to charge me.
Worth every cent IMO.

I think you may be mistaken on the year, my wifes 06 vector gt does not have a rear cooler.

- 2016 RS Vector XTX 1.25 Lug wifes..2013 RS Vector LTX.. 2003 600 VMax Past Machines 3-2007 Attaks 1-2010 Vector LTX.. sorry no Stinkdoos or poo's cats.
I got the top one in the picture. Made my own protectors from 1x1 sq. tubeing and 1/8in x 1 1/4 straping. Both from HomeDepot.
I didn't over heat again. I never did the reduced antifreeze or water wetter. I didn't bother. Thought I'd try just the cooler first.

Glycol concentration is very important because a higher concentration mix will not transfer heat as efficiently as a lower concentration mix.
Here is a link that explains this and a lot more about glycol concentrations.

Its very easy to get the light to come on with such low mileage. Once things loosen up it doesnt happen as easy. I diluted my antifreeze by basically removing 2 quarts from the system and refilling with water and even then my coolant is still good for -35f and my fan almost never runs and I have not seen the light on since. I would replace the antifreeze with "engine ice" before adding the rear cooler. Much simplier and cheaper and is known to drop coolant temps plus its one less place you have to worry about a stud flying off and puncturing(if your studded of course)

It only shuts off at idle, the sled will continue to run when overheating if you are driving it.

That is good to know. I am sure that some of us had a false sense of security thinking that the system was fail safe while riding not just idling.
I fixed my temp light issue as described prior, however I may still get that cool digital temp gauge from Ulmer that is described in another post currently on the board.
For anyone who finds themselves riding often with the light on, the gauge would be a great idea.
