My 08 anniversary with the gold ohlins has almost 9000 km on it. Still rides good except for some banging on the rough stuff (which I believe is the transfer rod). What kind of mileage is the norm for a rebuild?

I had my rear Ohlins and front GYTRs done this year by Frank at Shock Tec in Drayton ON. He suggestes a rebuild every 4000-5000 kms. Initially he will also revalve the shocks to your weight and riding style using a valve stack which will make a significant difference as well.

$80 per shock for a complete rebuild using Ames Oil and a valve stack. After the initial rebuild with the valve stack it is $60.
You are probably better off checking with Frank directly at www.shocktec.ca.

Pinnin' it!
Frank is the man all day long! Had several shocks done by him. One of the first things I would mod if I bought another Ape! My good buddy sideways Dave will agree!

Depending how the sled has been ridden some will go up to 10,000 miles. Mine made it further. Just had it rebuilt this week with 13,000 plus miles...but the original owner of the sled was an easy rider. What goes out many times with high miles as mine did is the electronic solenoid. The part alone costs $269, the whole shock assembly is $1400 new.

I need to send mine out too. My front clickers have leaked since 500 miles, and YES wouldnt cover them. If im understanding the above posts correctly, i would be paying about $240 plus shipping to re-valve and rebuild all 3 shocks. I think it is a reasonable and fair charge. The question is... since im in the US,prices for shipping to canada will suck, do i go to hy-gear in NE USA or bite the shipping charges to send to Frank. Does anybody have feedback on hy-gear or should i steer clear?

Most refresh of oil,gas and seals is around $50 per shock. Have you checked Pioneer Powersports in NY? I believe Bruce Schrader is still there and is a great person do them. Jeff Fischer from Motorsports plus in St.Paul,MN does a good job on Apex machines. He spent lots of hours on his personal Apex and knows how to set them up well. He is one of the hosts on the Sledhead24/7 television show shown on Fox Sports. I have had good luck with Jeff and my buddy had his supercharged Attak done (not a GT) and I thought the thing rode incredibly well a couple weeks ago in Michigan. I think I am going to have Jeff do my front piggy back GYTR shocks on my Attak GT.

Give Hygear a call. They will be more money but their setup is more in depth. They use a dual rate spring to help control bottoming which is the biggest problem of the apex. Frank did mine too this year and it still bottoms too easily. I talked to him and we are going to try a hygear spring next year. Hygear was going to be around $400 for the rear shock WITH the new spring & revalve. Oh, if you weigh over 200lbs than you will need a stiffer spring regardless and the Ohlins springs are $120-$150.

Thanks fellas. I am right at 200lbs geared up, so i might look into that big boy spring. I have not bottomed out my skid before, but im not too aggressive of a rider. I do know that all 3 need attention after this season.
It really annoys me that my front clickers have been dripping fluid since 500 miles. It is just a slight drip where the top click adjuster is near the resevoir. It isnt a lot, just enough to see that the resevoir has a coating of oil on it.
Thanks again!
Jim
