rear suspension assembly

I'm at a lost. I took apart the rear suspension to install new shocks and wheels. Now I am 95% done re-assemblying it but can't figure out the torison springs. I never took them off completely and now when I try to put back into place them seem extremely impossible to preload install.

Anyone have the service manual page showing how to do this?

Anyone have some walkthrough pictures / instructions...?

The short bar side sit on top of the adjustment block - correct?

I feel like a tard asking whereas I have done this 100 times on past skidoos...

Correct.Shortbar on adjuster.Long end goes into the loop behind your middle idlers.Just use your finger to slide the loop forward, lift longend of torsion spring over idler and set it down, slide loop back so it is surrounding end of torsion spring. If you need a pic let me know.

pic would help please. I understand the procedure the problem is I can't even rotate the long end of the torison spring half the distance...

short end on top of the adjustment block, rotate clockwise and with all my weight I can't get it past 6pm.

Currently the suspension is out of the sled. Is the preload much better if I install the suspension and then try to preload?

thanks much

Definitely wait till you get it in sled.Makes it much easier installing suspension also.Ziptie them up out of the way of the track at least one.If putting slide in from right side ziptie up the left one and remove the left rear big outside idler. When you are ready to put torsions in position make sure sled is up high enough so they clear the ground or real close. It will only take one hand.Make sure small end is in softest position (it pushes DOWN on the adjuster)when you swing the long end torsion clockwise over the idler and on to the seat.It also pushes DOWN in final position.

still stumped

installed the rear suspension tonight and still doesn't work. In order to get the rear bolts to line up I actually had to unbolt rear shock in order to collpase the suspension.... this doesn't add up. when bolted in I still could not rotate the torison spring as needed.. when rotating it clockwise from the position in the picture I was only able to get it to the 6 o'clock position

picture below are how the suspension sits. the torsion springs are sitting on the short end on top of the adjustment block... Do these pictures appear to be correct in how I assemblied the rear suspension?

thanks much for the help...

When you moved your wheels to the inside you lost the holder that slips over the long end of the spring, it's behind the wheel in this picture

Yup thats the issue. Also the two arms that attach rear of suspension to tunnel are not clocked correctly. If you look carefully at the end of the splined shaft they are slid on there is a small dot and a dot on arm. They have to be lined up.

I have the part mentioned was lost, but haven't installed it because I couldnt rotate the spring that fall to install it.

the spline is correct and lined up with the dots.

the springs were in fact on the wrong side.... Odd thing is I never took that apart, so only god knows how they installed them in the factory.

I will try and switch out and install again.

thanks much

I think you have the whole arm on backwards. That would explain why springs are in wrong position and why the clocking of the mounts looks odd.

When right the rear shock shaft will be over the top of the cross shaft.I usually put a little tape on it till installed to keep from nicking the shaft. So upper shock mount should go to the back.

That's it. The cross rod the 3 position plastic adjusters rotate on should be to the bottom side of the arm, not on the top of the arm as in your pictures.
