Rear Torsion Spring Mod

I applied pressure while I heated it. It did not get RED red hot but just started to color.
Got it. I may be able to get enough with MAP gas. You could feel it give with the heat I assume?

Yes, surprisingly it took very little time---maybe 6-10 seconds

Thanks Cannondale for the the instructions. I just may have to give this a try this weekend when I get up north, especially if it can be done without removing the skid. I always seem to struggle getting the skid back in by myself, so if i can do this by just dropping the skid, I just might try!
Just the rear is all thats needed to be dropped. Here is my little Knuckle Saver! Remember flat end of bar on inner race. Like Stain said get a spare wheel just in case. You will use it someday anyway.

Thanks for the picture! Are the upper idler wheels the same as the lower? If so, I did buy a couple spare ones this year as I lost the wheel last year on one of my lower. Figured having a couple might come in handy again.

No. Uppers are different size.

Funny this topic resurfaces. While we all don't agree on how the rear shock affects ride height I think we all agree this thing is sprung way too stiff. I was talking to Hygear today about this same subject. My sled is a 2014 LTX. I did not ride it very long before I bought the softer rear torsion springs. Hygear says they have begun to bend the softer springs by the coil to get more sag and softer ride. If you purchased a set of soft spring from them earlier then they are probably NOT bent. The way to tell is that the relationship between the long and short leg is anywhere from 80 to 90 degrees. They are bending them to 100 to 110 degrees. I removed and bent mine tonight. BEFORE

I will say after reinstalling the skid with no shocks and just checking the range of motion and sag the difference is very noticeable. I can actually push the back of the sled down with ease. The bummer is we have to snow to test!!!!! Hopefully next week.

So with this spring mod AND lighter springs what is your static sag measurement?

I just put the shocks back in. I am alone so it is kind of hard to measure correctly but measuring off the rear bumper I get 4.5 inches. Torsion springs on low. I weigh 210lbs and 12oz. I can push the rear end down to the transfer blocks much easier than before. Maybe I will actually get to use some other spring setting beside full soft!! I would like to be able to run the middle setting as that would give adjustment both ways.
I will have to get someone over to help measure sag correctly.

How about static sag? No rider. Got any?

got my shocks today. (thanks cannondale27) i am going to bend my stock springs tomorrow and hopefully get it together tomorrow night.

Again at the bumper probably an inch
Thats what I had with stock 6000 mi springs. The lighter spring made it worse. No Static sag at all. But hoping it just needs to be broke in. At least it still rides nice. Hate to bring this up again Stain. That XC cat with RR suspension when spring were bent like yours had about 6in of STATIC sag. No rider. That is my goal. Either way this softer spring does make it squat better under throttle and should be a bit more compliant.
