Removing reverse

I am contemplating removing the reverse from my sled.
2 reasons:
1-small weight gain.
2-I am going to be regearing my sled in the coming month. I would like to use the 43 tooth lower. This is only available without reverse. Plus the non-reverse gears are much cheaper.

I have had reverse on all my sleds for the last 5-6 years. You don't use it often, but man is it convenient when you do. I have friends that ride without reverve and they don't seem to have too much trouble.
I mainly boonedock in the UP, but usually make 2-3 trips out west each winter.
What is your opinion? Do you think I should remove it or leave it on? Do the pros outweigh the cons?

I have a '07 Apex. Is there anything special I would need to do to get rid of the reverse or is just as simple as putting in a different gear? Do I need a different cover or shaft or anything?

I have a non-reverse chaincase from an '06 Nytro if you are interested.

apex reverse

for myself there woulb be no way I would go without reverse not just for getting of the deck .But it seems like yamahas reverse is so usable even in deep snow.I ride with 2 xp 800 both of them can't believe how well the yamaha backs up ?If you want to use there reverse someone has to be pulling on the back bumper or it just corkscrews into the ground.I just geared my sled down from a 2.0 ratio to a 2.22 and did that with 18 tooth top gear and stock chain yamaha offers this gear as an option in the part's book so it can't be so off the wall I guess if I wanted to go to a deeper reduction I would go see a machinist with my bottom gear.my opinion revers is imperative OUCH MY BACK

Crazy not to have reverse. A little extra weight (not even enough for most to feel a difference) as the price for such a great tool. I am good about getting off the gas and off the sled before a little stick turns into a big one. Using reverse, I have gotten out of many little sticks without help, without using my back, and without pulling out the shovel. Between that ease of loading - seems crazy to even consider going without.
