Replacing all grease Zerks in Skid

I am completely rebuilding my 08' RTX skid, replacing all the drive line bearings and doing a track swap. There are a few skid Zerk fittings that would no longer accept grease. So I cut them all off and tapped them with M6 x 1.0 threads. Since I cut the Zerks right up behind the Zerk ball, I am hoping that I will not need to shorten the Zerk threaded ends. Dropping the skid parts off at my powder coater today and then will install 304 stainless steel Zerks in the arms. G.B.

Use 90 degree fittings if you can.
They don't have the ball at the tip like the straight ones.

Interesting. I didnt know that. I already ordered straight 304 SS zerks. Atleast now I can replace them as they will be threaded in. Thanks, G.B.

Never thought of just cutting off, drilling and tapping the old zerk. I had seen in the past removing the zerk completely and welding a nut. Good idea!

Thanks Mooseman. I cant think of anything why this shouldnt work well? I will post the finished results once parts are powder coated and SS zerks are installed. Thanks, G.B.

Soooooooo, this idea of cutting off the stock welded zerks just past the ball seemed to work well. Just got my skid parts back from my powder coater and they look great! I used a little red locktite on the threads of the M6 x 1.0 zerks when I threaded them into my new tapped holes in the skid components. These are the 304 stainless steel zerks I used and the length was perfect in the factory cut off zerk bodies. Pictures attached show the skid components with fresh powder coat, SS zerks, all new bushings, seals and needle bearings installed. Now I am ready to reassemble the skid. G.B.
