Changing the track on my Apex. Got down to the two small reverse gears and there's suppose to be a compression spring between the two gears. I either totaly missed the spring or it wasn't there in the first place. Either way i can't find it. Dealer can't get it in time before my trip. How important is this compression spring?

spring

it's about the size of a ball point pen spring you may find at hardware
store, if not take some pens apart. i think it needs to be in there.

It must be important or it wouldn't be there in the first place. Maybe you can get an "approximation" of the spring at the local hardware store to get you by? Maybe someone has a picture so you can see the size and thickness of the coils. Something that is close HAS to be better than nothing..
Sorry I don't have more...

Kinda sucks. Mine slipped out on me a few times when I did my track change but I was able to keep track of it. To be on the safe side, I would just order the correct spring. I'm sure it is a very specific length, diameter, and sring force rate. Try Port Yamaha. here is the Part#

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that spring you guys are talking about half way up the chaincase on the left side between two small gears. I believe it is in there to make reverse go in easier because if they were a tight fit your gears would have to line up exactly. Also with out that in there I believe it stops the outer (reverese) gear from rattling. So if you don't find a spring in time I would leave it out and go with no reverse, but it sounds to me that you should be able to find one because sobfrogg has extras. Have a good trip. (If you haven't already left? haha.)

I lost mine when my chaincase exploded. Didn't notice until I was reassembling and figured what the hell, I wasn't going to wait another week to order and pick up that stupid little part. Been working fine ever since. Sometimes it resists going into reverse, so you just shake the sled a bit and it pops right in. Mind you, it did that before. Not a big deal.
