Hey everyone. Just got my RX1 put together after 3 years, runs great, tears up the snow, however I have one issue. When the machine is running I can't put it in reverse, however if I shut it off, move the selector to reverse it will work when I start it up. At that point though it will not go into forward until I again shut it off. What do you guys think it could be? I did have the chain case apart, think I put a shim in the wrong spot?

Is it possible that the clutch is engaging slightly at idle and putting just enough torque on the gears to make it hard to shift? I would think that if it was a shim issue it would be hard to shift all the time.

I think you're on to something, it's a brand new Carlisle Ultimax-3 belt so maybe it needs some break-in time? It seemed loose enough on the primary clutch when it was running. I'm so used to working on cars and such that I didn't even think that the case should have no tension when stopped, running or not.

Take the belt off and see if it makes a difference, and then work back from there to see what needs adjusting.

Only use the yamaha 8DN belt the carlise ones give clutching fits. Yamaha belts last forever and just plain work.
