Hey guys, my right handwarmer stopped working this weekend. The left one still works fine. Is there an inline fuse that could have blown or what could have caused this? Thanks for the help!

Is it showing a code? I'm guessing the heating element in it burnt out

No fuse. Probably a burnt element. I don't recall mine throwing a code when it went out but my memory is teflon coated.....screwed the first replacement up with a crease in the new element.....

Curved bars make it more difficult but it's just a sticker you need to wrap around the bar. Got mine from the dealer both times, I think the pricing in Canada and US were too close to bother with the shipping. Buy a grip as well, some get them off intact, others need to cut them off. I think I used some spray adhesive from 3M for grip glue (had some in the shop) but have used hairspray in the past and Yamaha sells a grip glue as well.

If just one is not working there will not be a code. The other one will be soon to follow however and then it will start flashing the yellow warning light with the check engine symbol and display code 81. Happened to me twice last year. The first time I spent an hour sitting in the middle of a deep meadow looking for service to find out what the code meant because i thought it was engine related. Panicked for a bit until I just realized it was simply a handwarmer circuit failure. Both times my dealer replaced under warranty. What happened is when riding aggressively my grips were twisting and causing me to break a couple of the tiny element wires.

Thanks for the responses guys. I guess I will replace the elements. I've read that the RSI grips are pretty good, i think I'm going to give them a try. Hopefully I can reuse the original grips.

I would just get new grips as well. I just installed the RSI gel wrap grips and love the feel. Curious as to how they will hold up but for $20 I'm ok replacing grips midseason if need be. With dirtbikes I learned the better grips usually wore out faster anyways. Just my opinion but simple changes on grips can go a long ways for comfort and stamina riding

You can check the resistance behind your headlight inside the left boot for the right grip on the white and black plug, hand grip end. If memory is correct(sometimes sketchy) it should be 7 ohms. If not its nfg. Someone here will know.

Yes the grip should have 7 ohms. It is likely the grip. The grips are connected in parallel so if the lh side works then short of a broken wire it is the grip. Very common to have one fail. Replacing the element is easy getting the grip on over top the element without tearing it is the hard part. I use JB weld for glue as it stands up well to the heat and i like to wrap one layer of electrical tape tightly over the element so it does not tear when forcing the grip on. It is a tight fit! Done lots like this with great success.

Same here , replaced the right element , couple of rivets , peel it off, no biggy .
