I have beed waiting quite a while to post this.
I just got back from Muni over the weekend Sun-tues am. First I must say we stayed at the new AmericInn it was great time
Now the sled. I was able to get a few miles on at home before leaving. So I got up ther with 22 miles. Just enough to get a feel for the throt. and engine braking.
The engine on this thing flat out ROCKS. I have never riden a 4-stroke untill this so I had know idea of what to expect. I am the only one in my group that has a 4-stroke and most people were impressed.
The throtle respose was better than any og the 2-smokes that I was riding with. The other sleds were a 04 Viper with trip pipes and air box mods, 196 picks. there were 2 05 gades. Last but not least was the 2000 Doo 700.
For the people that said this engine would not have the throt of a 2-smoke they were right. IT HAS WAY MORE!! I could pick any small bump in the trail whack the flipper and get air, Efortlessly (sp?)
We all raced many times. The Attak ended up in the front every time. If we did a rolling start or a start from a dead stop. My track was a little loose so I could not give it full throt off the line.
Once I let some of the other sleds lead and all I could think was WOW those things STINK!!!!!!
THe suspension I had my reservations about. I am 255 without gear a new it was going to bottom out. I move the cir-clip to the second notch and ran the adjuster on 8 worked good. After riding the twisties and looking for every bump I could find I came to the conclusion the new rear suspension was not up to the hype.
After a while I let one of my buddie ride the new sled and I jumoed on his Viper. The Viper has had shock work new shocks and springs and is set up very well. So I hit the same bomps on the trail we just went down. What i noticed was, I felt like I was dragging my #*$&@ on the snow w/ the Viper. After about 2 madey 3 mins. of hitting the same bumps I just ran over w/ the Attak was HOLY #*$&@!!!!! THIS MONO SHOCK ROCKS!!!!!
My past thoughts about the rear suspension on the Attak was totally changed. Thi ride differenc was AMAZING to say the least. I got back on my Attak and could run the same trail twice as fast with feeling almost nothing. In the twisties I could push the Attak much harder. I just felt more stable on the snow.
As for the Doo guys. Well I ended up towing the 00 700 back to the hotel. In only 30 mile it ate a ring again. The other 2 Doo riders did not even want to try the new sled. All they could say was "we ain't racing you any more". Also, "That thing(my attak) is in a whole different class."
This is my first 4-stroke. I did not buy it for the fuel milage or even for the fact it was a 4-stroke. I bought the sled because after sitting on it March I thought it was the most compfy thing on the snow.
We did get to ride some powder and got a chance to quite a bit of jumping. I could not have been more pleased yes some snow comes over the hood, but that happens when riding powder. And I must say the Attak jump and lands as good as any 2-smoke.
Some of my opions.......
I had a little darting. I made some shims and got rid of most of it. The next day I set the toe to 0. MPI has a great tool for setting your steering. Easy as can be. Can be done in the trailer.
This took care of all the darting!.. The 4 inch bars on the skies are a JOKE. I did want to ride the sled with out making any adj.
Their was some inside ski lift. When on the gas comming out of a corner. Very predictable, but still I want it flatter. I enjoy the weight transfer so I will start of with a fatter sway bar and new ends.
All in all a great sled. I find it hard to get back to my SRX after riding the Attak.
As i make changes I will post the results. Good and Bad

So the 2nd spot on the clip reduced most of your bottoming? Mines on the 3rd clip now since I ride pretty hard trails and am a good 245 with all my gear. Great report.

try adjusting out your weight transer... it will keep the skis down once you do that.. adding a swaybar isnt going to keep the rear suspension from pulling the skis

I think I am going to try the big boy spring. I tend to ride hard.
As for the ski lift yes shortening the limiter straps will reduce ski lift, but it also reduces my weight transfer.
The bigger sway bar will help to reduce the roll in hard turns.
OH one ot the things I forgot to mention. The grips got rather warm. Not scorching like on the SRX. Long periods of high RPMs seemed to get them hot.
Top speed was nice. The wish-o-meter read 116 at 11,000 rpms. Hey atleast I waited till the sled had 200 miles before I kept it pegged
A clutch kit will make this thing untouchable
Mabey a little boost could be in the future.

One thing you can try that doesn't cost any money is to change how you use the throttle. Since you said you were new to 4 strokes, one of the keys to flatter cornering is not let off on the throttle. By that I mean you reduce the amount of throttle, but never completely so that the weight doesn't fully transfer. Instead of hammering into a corner, let off the gas, turning, and hammering out, just ease off the throttle. Several guys mentioned this back on the 03 models and I have been doing it ever since. It makes a huge difference in the way the sled corners and will help reduce inside ski lift.sobfrogg said:Their was some inside ski lift. When on the gas comming out of a corner. Great post and thanks for taking the time to write it up.

Pro, No we did not get up till Sunday. Oh the Attak is a great tow sled, One of the doo'd did not make it. So I towed him in.
Swiss, I did notice what you had mentioned. I just have to make the effort to do so.
I love the eng braking
