I feel that the skid plate is a cause to the nose cone filling up with snow because prior to the skid i did not have a problem with the nose cone filling up with snow. I would like to see this plate made to look like the stock one and leave the portion between the aarms open.
My plate still looks good and i did get some ice through the hole but did not work like i anticipated.
I am getting alot of ice out of the steering boots as well.
I don't think the plate is the cause of the nose cone getting filled with snow. Mine did that without the plate. If you look down into the nose you can see many places where snow can get in. I used duct tape inside the nose.
I addressed the poor front mounting a year ago and he got defensive to what was meant to be constructive and a couple ideas I had to make it more stout up front. I think its a absolutely top not product, with crappy mounting. I ended up giving mine away and made my own. Lighter and stronger.

Do you have any pics of what you did?
would love to see pics of what you have now as well?
The problem is not his plate, it is well made and works great. The problem is that area of freeze / thaw that causes the ice to peal the plate off the sled. I am goign to modify mind to address this, and it doens't have anything to do with holes....

My big issues were that I didn't want to drill 1/2" holes in my weak sub frame, didn't like the rubber well anchors and I really didn't like the far front of it not being secured. I hit a lot of stuff so I was really not satisfied with his mounting.
You can see in the pictures how I added two bolts up front (don't see any reason not to do this) then even on my 08 sub frame I found enough room to bolt it to the plate. I ran it like this the last half of last season with no issues at all and a lot of abuse.
My reason to go to a new plate was that I wanted to drop a little weight and use my plate as a sub frame strengthening member. so I made one out of .100 and I bolted it to my sub frame using #10 riv nuts spaced about every 3" to basically make it one with the sub frame. looking now I didn't get any pictures of it.

The hydraulic force of ice is huge. The fastening of the front has worked great for most people but obviously there are cases where the ice wins. There is the opportunity for further fastening as some have shown. I personally thaw my sled out after every ride which gives it a chance to thaw out and lets me check it over. Not every one is able to do that: nor is it always practical. I had originally wanted to design a short skid plate that duplicated the original engine protector, but after seeing some of the impacts that people had experienced, decided to go full length. Full length offers superior protection and better flotation.
Mine also is parked in a heated garage and i have not had this problem. Im surprised the ice build up has that much power to bend the plate. Proof is in the pics though.

Well Im glad I had mine on this weekend! I was in Cooke, up on the north facing side of Daisy making a few high mark pulls, and on the way down I hit a rock
I was probably going 35 and it was just below the snow surface hidden.
After each day of riding, its not to hard to take 5 minutes and clean some of the snow out. I usually have mine in the garage after every ride too, but not when Im 1100 miles from home.

The problem of freezing the ice long been familiar - to reduce the amount of ice was installing additional bolts - Pincher protection to more tightly to the body of the snowmobile. (IMG_2725)
In my opinion the reason for freezing a large amount of ice because of its falling into place is shown in IMG_2728
Snow falls under protection - there on the dripping snow from the motor and it turns into ice.
Need than to close this place. That want to try the next exit.
I apologize for my English.
