seems like the cold has a big affect on the ice,this pic is after a 5 day trip to gaspe and back,the last 3 days were very cold with fresh snow before the cold snap,

WOW! I've never seen ice build up like that before. I'll get some, but the suspension compressing and expanding (combined with a little aggressive riding) always seems to knock it out. Some times first thing in the morning I'll have to ride a little slow until the frozen ice gets chewed out.

Are you riding extremely smooth trials with no bumps at slower speeds?

Yeah the ice does build up on mine also. I usually take it in the garage at night and melt it down. Like TFIN most of mine falls off from trail riding.

Well it's been mild here since yesterday and everything melted off mine so I picked up a spray can of rust check and applied a good coat to the tunnel protectors and sides of the tunnel where the ice builds up. I will report back with results after the weekend. BTW the spray can was only $9.99 and it will easily give you 6 or 8 applications.

Well after 2 rides I have no ice, my tunnel protectors are as clean as the day they were in the shed when everything had melted off. I think I have it cured!

This is a big or bigger issue with the VL and MP- you can see pics in the Phazer section under Venture Lite or "Ice Boogers" (best name yet).

You'd think Yamaha could make snowmobiles that could be driven in the snow at all temperatures. Maybe they are testing in warmer conditions; not real world? And they should fix this as it creates all kinds of problems, such as, track and suspension wear; increased fuel consumption from the extra weight; rider discomfort from the noisy/vibrating track; and the sled could be made totally unusable from freezing, if you cannot get it thawed out overnite.

We just got back from a week in the U.P. with 15 other sleds, Poo's, Doos and Yami's. I can say that "Everyone" had ice build up, one Polaris in particular was knocking off several pounds a day to keep it clear. So, it's not just the Yami's that have this issue, from what I saw, it's across the board.
If you put the coolant lines and the exhaust above the track, you're going to have icing, I don't see how it can be avoided.

Actually a freind of mine has a 550Fan doo. Last year we thought he busted something on the skid as it was sitting low like a 1980's sled. It looked as if it only had about 3 inchs of travel. He took it to the dealer as was still under warrantee and come to find out it was just ice build up in the tunnel. I tell you he felt pretty stupid. melted it off and was good to go.
