I was searching through Yamaha's desktop background pics. I downloaded the one with the rider in mid-air on his RTX. Great pic, but I noticed while staring it that this RTX does not have a painted tunnel...it's bare aluminum. Were there some made like this? Were the prototypes designed this way and then they changed the production models? If yes, why? Anyone know anything?

BTW, not sure if these pics are still available with the 2007 models up on the site.

Initially they were going to be bare aluminum, but changed to painted for production. early proto pic.

Proto type. I went to two shows last spring, the 1st one had an unpainted RTX while the 2nd had a painted one. I went to the 1st show with the RTX on my short list but didn't like the looks of the tunnel bare. The 2nd show it looked great with the black tunnel but I didn't like the silver wedge on the seat. Now the seat is all black, so I guess I have no excuses not to order it now ;)!

Damn right you don't!

I love the looks of the black tunnel, but would prefer the bare aluminum in the end. My paint is already wearing off.

Hope the ProActive CK doesn't hurt what I think is possible the best all around snowmobile on the market right now. Of course, I have a slight bias. Check my sig!

After 1000 miles I wish mine was bare aluminum. I would have thought Yamaha would have used a durable poweder coat but mine is scratching up pretty good where my feet sit. Im a bit dissapointed in that, Ive had ski doos with yellow tunnles that didnt have any finish issues after 3 yrs.

I will be installing footpads on my NEW RTX when i sell my mach....same as i did with the mach,i HATE scratches or anything that makes a sled look bad...

I will be desigining a pad that will work with the diamond plate grate holes...worked well with the mach and looks amazing ,no marks from boots...the days of powder coated tunnels are gone...BRP used to do this but no more.

I hear you TT, my GT has marks on the side of the left side of my tunnel from the buckles of my Truckie boots and a little on the botton of both sides of the tunnel. I never wanted a black tunnel, because I knew that would happen.
