anyone install handguards on thier rtx yet??
i just finised up installing a set of sportech guards on mine. it was a pain in the #*$&@. i knew it was going to be a little tough but it was definately more work then i thought it would be. i had to trim 2 inches off each mounting arm and redrill the hand guard mounting holes. then i had to fabricate angled brackets to attach the guards to the mounts, drill and tap those and clean it all up so it looks good.
spent almost 3.5 hrs at work tonight getting it to fit & look good and not hit the windshield.
Looks really good but i am wondering if it was worth all the work.
good luck to anyone else that trys to mount the sportech guards.
sorry no pix

i am thinking off adding the yami handguards to mine. it does look like it will be a pain. wires are tight to the bar and theres really not much room for the bracket. anyonle else try handguards yet?

I considered the yamaha ones but went with the sportech because they have aluminum mounting brackets and i felt the aluminum was strong and easy to work with. i have no idea how the yamaha ones are set up or what they are made of.
I have seen a lot of other brands and in my opinion most are pretty cheaply constructed

I may be wrong but I gotta believe that Yamaha's handguards will fit better than any aftermarket brand. I had Sportech on my Viper and I thought they were very nice and they installed very easily but the Apex bars are obviously way different. Ordered Yamaha's guards for my Attak because 1) I think they look cool and 2) I hope the mounting system is user friendly to Yamaha's handlebars. All my accessories should be in tomorrow, I will post pics when I get them on, along with my windshield (I'm painting a clear Apex MTN shield to match Yamaha's blue or should I go black????), skid plate, windshield bag, front storage bag, hooked brake lever.
Leader, I would really like to see some pics. I can't imagine your handguards would hit that little windshield on the RTX.

I too would think the Yamaha one's should be an easy install, that's the way they do things. yrunderattak, did you find the install easy?

2blue sorry i can't post pix. i spent all my money on sleds and didn't have enough to buy a camera so i have no way of taking a picture. i can assure you that these things fit fine and dont touch, but like i said it took 3.5 hrs to get it that way.
honestly i did not care for the look of the yamaha guards. that is why i went with sportech. I still think the sportech are ugly just not as ugly as the yamaha guards (just my opinion). i like the acerbis but they are very cheaply made. i considersd buying acerbis and sportech and combining the 2 but was able to make these work.
besides i feel that the sportech have the best coverage of all the brands and up in maine it gets pretty darn cold.
good luck with whatever you choose.
2blue if you have one of them fancy cameras could you post a few pix??
