- 2007 Attak - LOVE my sled!!!
Can say that the 2011 Apex IS faster, has serious kick in the butt power.
As i understand it, the peak HP isn't much more, but the feel sure is!!
Yamaha states they improved the power band, & can say from riding it personally, you can definitely feel it.
(Can't wait to get on Mr Sleds SE... lol)
Improving the efficiency will definitely provide big increases in mileage AND power.
Too bad the DD didn't live up to the hype...

Based on Yamaha's history on skis, they should just ship them without skis to keep costs down and give buyers a rebate to go buy there choice so they at least have something that will work!Grimm said:My prediction...BNG, power steering, rear air shocks and new skis.
No sense designing a new ski, they have proven thru history that their engineers have no clue what a ski should be. LOL

Follow the link to see a new motorcycle from yamaha with a "new motor" that might be coming for a lighter "nytro" twin.

I remember a few years ago, just before the RX1 came out, one of the mags thought a 900cc HPDI ( high pressure direct injection ) motor might come out. I think that system came from there outboard motors at the time..not sure but it comes to mind...something like that in a stronger Nytro chassis would be coo!
exactly! we all know yamaha is the sleeping giant...
they have the ability to really make a wave...the thought of that motor in a lightweight frame is a winnner!
The problem is that they have always been a sleeping giant, when will they wake up?
Dont get me wrong, I've been a loyal yami guy since 1996 and its all I have ever owned (other than a few projects in between) and they are always a great sled, but never a game changer, and never a top dog HP king. To compare the 800 etec to the Apex isn't fair IMO. the Nytro is more in line with the XP type sleds other than it falls short on HP. why not a light nimble Nytro with Apex HP in the 160's? Or, if you are gonna keep the Apex as the trail cruiser, make it a Bad as$ HP monster.
Not trashing the Apex by any means, love the sled and bought a new GT in 06 that was great. But, it didn't handle "great", was fast but not a world beater, and didn't ride all that great. For the $16,000 big ones these things now cost, they should be unfricken real, have good skis, not trash bearings in 1 season, and the skid perform great all around without having to throw a bunch of money at extras to get it right.
It was different back in say 2000 when I bought a new SRX for $6500. For almost 1/3rd of the cost, you don't expect it to be perfect, and it wasn't. It was just a great sled with a shitty rear skid. I still swear that I can get an SRX through the woods faster than an Apex.
I just don't see why the costs keep going up and up and up. No huge changes, but yet the price goes up every year while the US dollar and inflation are stagnant. HMMM?? I paid $9,000 for a left over GT OTD as a left over in 07. 3 years later and the MSRP is almost double. I don't get it. I am either getting wiser or cheaper as I get older. Maybe both!

Yes, Have heard mixed reviews about the diamond drive.
Too bad, because a 5-10% improvement in efficiency is huge and gains you horsepower!

Thats it, you lose about 40-50% of your power to the track. Why spend all this money making more engine power, when you can get more of the power to the track and maybe make the sled lighter in the process

That is very interesting...however the current 1050 tripple puts out more torque..about 15 lbs/ft more...what kinda HP does is crank out?

Bike mags say 110hp at 7250rpm. The bike weights 540lbs or so dry but has a steel frame so I'm not so sure what the motor weight may be.
Maybe it's the "Dual, front and rear gear driven balancer shafts reduce engine vibration to a minimum for great rider and passenger comfort"shaddow44 said:7 skulls said:Follow the link to see a new motorcycle from yamaha with a "new motor" that might be coming for a lighter "nytro" twin.

I owned a 06 F7 SP, when I was a die hard cat guy I was always on ArcticChat, most people claimed the chaincase sleds were faster?? Not sure how much truth there was in that but I see allot of companies coming out with belt drives, moslty for the mountain segment .

- 2010 FXNytro MTX 162 SE with a 270 hp MCX Turbo and assorted goodies!
Probably late breaking news, but Yamaha has a Turbo Kit from PUSH and a Super Charger from Mountain Performance on their accessory page. Both claim to add 45 hp and are "plug and play" devices with no cut, chop, or weld work needed. Also say they do not void warranty. Sounds to me like that is their direction. I have seen the factory yamaha guys from Japan looking close at what the mountina segment is doing to their 4-strokes. I bet we see more in the ear future from the factory........

Now all they have to do is make it for the trail sleds, and not cost so much, is it 4500?

Word has it that they are working on the low elevation kit but I'd be surprised to see it for this season. Don't take that as gospel either.
