RX-1 project starts today, issues? day #1... sweetness

yah i think i found the last new one availible?? it's been confirmed Holtz is not making yamaha products, at least that the word i've heard. and what do i know??

how do the timberline drop bracket seem to word? do they allow enough room for the 16"??

just heard back from the local shop they've got an m7 153 skid and 16x162 maverick track for a pretty good price

so

i'm rethinking the holtz skid for the moment in order to save a bit of cash. what there telling me is if the m7 153 skid is mounted in the front hole of the rx1 it sets up for a 162 without rail extensions?? is this true? i'd than need to swap out the extro drivers to a 3.0 8tooth plus get the dimensions for the geometry...

what is the best way of insuring the correct dimensions?

What's the verdict?

I have been reading your dilemna and I'm wondering if you went with the Holtz or the AC skid? The Holtz is probably a better skid but AC is I'm sure the much better deal. It certainly is your money and of course you're free to do as you wish but, I went through the same issue and frankly didn't want to spend that kind of money the Holtz skid demmanded. It just didn't seem to make sense to spend that kind of money on a sled that is already two models behind the current crop of sleds. It's your call.

One other thing that caught my eye in your post. First if you do go to a 162" track you'll need 7 tooth 3.0 drivers (unless you have dropped and rolled your chaincase). 8 tooth x 2.52" pitch theoretically equal a 20.16" diameter driver where as a 7 pitch x 3.0" driver equal a 21" driver (larger).

Yes, a 16" wide track makes a huge difference on this sled. I liked the Skidoo 16 x 2.3" x 159 I had on my sled. It was much better in the powder than the stock track BUT the sled just didn't seem to want to get up on plane in the deep stuff. It seemed to plow more than I thought it should. Go to the Dootalk website and read their thoughts on the track.

For this year I sold the Skidoo track for what I paid for it and found a smoking deal on a new in the box Challenger Extreme 162 x 16 x 2.5 for only $50 more than I sold the Powertrench (Powermax something) track. I also went for the 7 tooth 3.0' pitch Wahl Brothers drivers frankly because they were about the same price for two as for one of the Avids and I had good luck with the Wahl Brothers drivers in the past. Man do I sound like a Walmart shopper or what! Now I just have to put it all together.

Best of luck to you.

you make the point very well and thus is why i'm having the difficulty.

questions...
why so many m7 skids on the market?
how do you prevent the vibration
is track tightening a major issue and how can it be overcome

new question
with the wild child rider forward mod can you put on 4" risers without cable extensions

When you move the steering forward it gives you alot of slack in the cables. It also raises your bars alot. Of all the guys we have running the rider forward mod a two inch riser is the highest anyone has and we have had to remove extended cables when we find them. The excess cable has no place to go. We have some nice 4 to 6 inch pivoting risers that I'll sell cheap. They are too high with rider forward.

Why so many M7 skids on the market?

I'm not sure although I have to guess that they probably ride like manure on such a light sled, especially without the Holz relocation brackets or the 08 rails that fixed the track tightening issues.

What does one do to get rid of the vibration?

There are several past posts on this one. You can add a set of small idlers near the front of the skid frame, you can make sure your extroverts are timed properly, you can loosen your front track shock tension and limiter straps to name a few but it seems some have it more than others. I had it a bit with the 159 x2.52" pitch and I anticipate having it even more with the 162 x 3.0" pitch just based on what I have read. Let me know if you learn of a silver bullet that can cure this problem.

Track tension issues?

Easily cured with the rear suspension Holz front arm relocation bracket.

What else?

just got a line on a new an apex mtn skid and track for a real good price??????????????????????????

weight transfer install???????????

purchased an M7 153 skid today. tried mocking up the setup and it looks like i'm committed to the 162. well #*$&@, i'll make it work!

just need the maverick and drop brackets does anyone have a template for aluminum brackets fabed up?? has anyone used timberline drop brackets

how have folks mounted the m7 to the front hole in the tunnel? yamaha shaft or AC bolts.

Bolts

I went with the AC bolts.. There are a ton of used mavericks around...

Joe, I'm sorry I had to run to go to my daughters school open house. I do have a rear drop down bracket taht works well for the M7 skid that I can trace and send to you (if I can find it). I looked the other day for another gentleman but couldn't find it. I'll try harder tomorrow.

I think my buddy wants your 159 finger track. Then I'll buy his 141" Yamaha Mountain Max track and put it under my son's/wife's 99 Phazer.

Good luck'

I had a local shop cut my dropdown brackets when I installed my AC skid. They cut it with a H2O saw and still have the template in there CAD program. They usually have some extra 1/4" 6061 aluminum laying around. If you want I can give them a call and see how much it would be to cut them. Nice thing is the $ to get them designed into the CAD is already taken care of. And they look pretty nice Let me know.

sent you a pm sounds pretty good

the how much is your buddy willing to pay for the track it's in real nice shape i've also got the (i believe) 8 tooth drivers extros. i should know this weekend...

Front mount bolts
do the ac bolts have nuts? my skid came with a bushing? i'll post a pic later

thanks

Freewheeler, I think my buddy is willing to pay (I'm guessing here) roughly $250+ for the track. I'm not exactly sure why he wants a finger track (maybe because I had such good luck with one)? I think he might be better of with a series 4 Polaris track but, it's really up to him. He could use the extroverts as well. Maybe $300 for both? Knowing him, he'll try to get both for $50. :-o

I didn't get a chance to look for the drop down bracket yesterday. Actually, it's Jonny Rocket's bracket. I'll try again today.

Yes, I know what you mean about the front of the rear suspension. I used 9/16" head bolts long enough to make it through the mount and insert. I also (on the outsides of the suspension inside the tunnel) used some 5/16" aluminum spacers to fill the gap between the skid and the tunnel.

Good luck

family has finally left town and i'll be able to get back into the garage. i've got a maverick 162x16 and 7 tooth drivers on order as well as a few extras for the m7 skid antistab wheel kit and the holtz relocation brackets.

rider forward should be arriving this week as well, the next few weeks should be pretty interesting?

nearly got the drive shaft out last night. does anyone have a tip for removing the bearing w/out a bearing puller?

also take a look at the upper boggie wheel on my m7153 skid does this seem right?? i was reading where folks have been sanding off a portion of the mounts but these wheels really seem to sit low?? is it setup right or had someone moneyed with it????
