O.K., I need someone smarter than me to explain this to me.......I know, not much of a stretch. For the last 2 seasons+ I have blown the oil seal behind the primary clutch due to excessive crankcase pressure. Our "local" dealer told my mechanic the sled needed a "valve job" to fix problem. Now I can understand how bad rings could cause blowby thus creating excessive crankcase pressure, but how the H*** can valves do that?

Have you checked the breather for a blockage?

Yep....have the K&N filter kit with evac........checked the hose(s) for weak spots; checked for blockages; nothing......everything checks out O.K. yet it keeps blowing seals.

Compression typically goes 2 places its not suppose to. Either by the rings/pistons/cylinder or the valve/valve guides/seals. The guides/valves also wear out. Before you have the engine ripped apart for repair, should really have a leak down test peformed. This will tell you the shape of the engine. Anything is possible, so far I have only seen valve cover gasket blow out from blow by.

So anybody got any idea what a valve and ring job should cost? Figure as long as the engine is apart and given the notorious "quality" of the stock rings on the 03's I might as well do both.

How did you know you blew the seal behind the primary? I noticed some residue behind my primary on my 2005 had me a little concerned.
