Well hear I go with a new question,, I would like to compare top speed on the RX-1, by the speedo with out a turbo . So I can compare it to the CPR piped VIPER speedo I had. Could you let me know if you was stock? Also if you had a clutch kit and or ECP kit..."thanks for putting up with all the questions from a new guy to 4-stroke's"...Gary.

When I was doing radars with 9833 track (block 1.25" x 121) and 144 spikes, got 125 on the gauge with 112 on the radar. Now with 9923 (ripsaw 1.25" x 144) and NO spikes, haven't yet retested against a radar, but seeing 128 on the giggle gauge no slip.

On my 03 with heavy Hitters I hit 136 on the dream meter twice on the hard packed north shore of Houghton lake

Hookup was unbelievable, had 192 Woody's megabites in that sled. So slippage was at a minimum, I just wish I knew how much those dreameters are truely off :?

Totally stock on 5 inches of packed snow on frozen lake, 127mph on dream meter. Added studs later and saw 120mph on 12-18 inches of packed snow on lake.
I have not seen or heard about a Viper having longer legs than the RX-1, regardless of it piped or not.
You should also try searching for threads on top speed. That are lots of existing threads on this topic and below are some links. I highly recommend the last link.

I disagree a piped viper should definitely outrun a RX-1. I ride with a stock Viper and on good conditions he can hit 123 to 125 on the speedo which really surprised me. A stock RX just doesn't have the big end it should. It is too heavy and has a poor attack angle.

Does filing a tooth off the gear by the speedo pickup correct it, I read somewhere that it did?

No, then *every* reading will be wrong. It gives a correct reading for the TRACK speed. The track, of course, will slip differently under different conditions.

Buckeye, I agree with you. I've had my wife's stock Viper up to 121 and the stock RX-1 to 122. The Viper took longer to reach that but still got the job done. I'm a bit disappointed in the RX's top speed.

02 snake grinding a tooth off of the speedo gear will bring your speedo within about 5-6 mph not the 20 high that it comes with from the factory ive done it it works and i have checked it on radar as i got tired of seeing 140+ mph knowing that its not going even close to that if you cut two teeth of you mite read 2-3 mph low dispite what ower learned freind woody(lb)
:ORC has to say if slipage was a big problem why are the fire cat speedos right on with the radar gun

128 on 2 inches hardpack on the lake. I ride with an 02 Viper a lot and he can't come close to competing with my RX1 what gives :? he's never topped 110 let alone 120 you guys sure these are stock Vipers you are talking about

Take a run up a lake with snow on it, then go back and look at the track you made. MEASURE the slippage (how much the lugs are elongated with respect to distance between the lugs) and you'll get between 10 and 20% depending on the track and conditions.
FC speedo is NOT right on with radar, and it is certainly no indication of track speed.

at 119.2 on radar the speedo was reading 130 mph with one tooth removed and it was still spining with the stk track with no studs and stk gearing stk air box only mods that i ran were dolton clutching and 137.5 mains and needles rased one shim that blows that 20% slipage out the window

Convert, that guys Viper must be sick. I know my friends' is stock and it tops 120 easily. I was very surprised. He hung right with me. The best I ever saw was 125 and I tried mucho clutching and gears. Just couldn't get anymore out of it.
