dHey Guys,
I have read most of this section over the past few days. Would you get an rx-1 if you had to do it over again. (03/04) Do they ride fairly well, I'm coming off of a 02 ZL 600 EFI if that helps any. What kind of power are we looking at, I read some of the reviews on the yamaha website, good midrange 50-100, tops out at 122 from snowest, does it really compare to an 800-900 two stroke? My buddy bought an 2004 800HO Rev this year; I am looking for a sled that will keep up with him on the long straights and yet hold it's own in the *rough*. I ride in the U.P., Newberry, Paradise region, trails are smooth in the morning atleast, and are very fast, see 90-100 on the long straights. Is it worth to get an 04 over an 03, they have some leftovers here that are pretty cheap(substantial changes). I'm not into wrenching, all I do is change spark plugs , other than that, it goes to the dealer, so a low maintainence sled is key for me. The price between the Rev and the RX-1 is very similar, what do you think? Aggressive trail ridding only, I won't be doing off-trail riding. I weigh about 160 lbs. I would get the short-track too, I have no use for the warrior, atleast I think.
Any input, will be appreciated. Or any links to similar questions.
Thanks,
Matt

I haven't gone down the trail versus a rev but others on here have raced REVs with their Warriors and RX-1s with great results. After comming of a 600 you will be impressed with the acceleration of the RX-1. I went from a slightly modded Polaris Triple and my RX-1 mtn has harder pull than it did anywhere in the RPM range.
Yes I would purchase another RX-1 mtn if I had the money to do it again.

RX-1 is the best sled I have ever owned or ridden, period. Yes I would buy another one. I have the 03 RX-1 and it fits your criteria. You may not win every race, but you will never be left way behind either. UP bumps aren't that bad. Not having to buy/carry oil in the UP is a big plus too.
I saw some demo RX-1's in Minneapolis over Thanksgiving weekend for $7'200 (192 studs, skid plate, shock covers, with under 1'000 miles).

I would definatly buy the sled again, in fact I almost did 03 to a 04, but which ever one you choose to buy make sure if its the 03 it doesn't have the POS stock track on it. you will never see the true performance of this sled with that thing on.

I ride in that area all the time also. I have a place in Seney. If I had it to do over I would get the Warrior, I now have the RX1 Mountain. I love the power and handling. The longer track rides better I belive.

velocicaur, I ride in Canada mainly, and I tried the RX-1 last year while I was up there and I thought I was on a jet! so smooth and powerful, it pulled like nothing I had ever experienced. Last year I had a 700 V-Max with reeds, a powershift clutch kit, and a Bender can and it was a pretty quick sled, we compared the RX-1 with this 700 V-Max and it cleaned its clock  We also had an opportunity to compare it with an 800 REV, and they where side by side up until 80MPH and then the RX-1 started to walk away We also compared fuel mileage between the 700 V-Max and the RX-1 and we where cranking right along  The V-Max was getting about 11MPG + 1Qt of oil every 100 miles and the RX-1 was getting 16 MPG and with the gas prices in Canada at about $2.00 a gallon that will add up
Well this year I own a 2004 Warrior, and I will tell you its the best sled I have ever owned, it's a new dimension in sledding, it has got every thing going for it! Acceleration, ride, handling, economy, longevity, quality, reliability, and the potential to make mince meat out of the competition 8) So would I reccomend one to you! YOU BET YOUR SWEET BIPPY I WOULD

I did buy again, I now have a 03 RX1 and an 04 RXWarrior.
I own 6 sleds all together, I am selling the oldest one off and replacing them with RX models.
I am coming over from Ski-Doo A very high quality snowmobile brand, very pleased, but I really believe Yamaha builds a higher quality machine, after owning one for a Year.

I would not buy an 03 RX-1 again!
I would buy a Warrior
I too ride the same area's as you and believe the Warrior was designed for us. That longer skid will take those afternoon trails so much better as well as let you do some offtrail riding with confidence. It won't beat the REV's in the trails but they better pray you aren't close coming into a straightaway because the wind is gonna blow them off the trail as you fly by

In my opinion, the RX-1's are the best sled on the market for what you are looking for. I bought an 03 shorty and just love it. I did a great deal of research before I purchased and can honostly say I have not been disappointed one bit. I too primarily do "aggressive" (but safe) trial riding and this slid fits the bill.
My biggest dilemna is that I would like to get a smaller (HP wise) sled for the kids to ride and would love to have another 4 stroke and a Yamaha. Unfortunaly, there is no such animal. I have been intrigued by the reports of a possible smaller HP model next year. I am wondering if I should wait or if there is another sled that may be good. I would have a hard time going away from a 4 stroke anymore.

After riding my warrior for the first time I don't think I can go back to 2 strokes. I didn't notice the engine breaking until I switched with a viper and prefer to have the breaking. The 136 is MUCH more stable, will ride better in the bumps, and the extra traction/acceleration is amazing.

I WILL buy another. Right now I have a warrior. Coming off of a sx600 I can say the weight is there, but the way it rides, handles, moves, everything you just don't feel it. Honestly you have to ride one to know. The only people saying negative things about it have not actually tried it. It is truely an awsome sled!! The warrior handles very rough trails just as well as a ZL700 my cousin rides, actually it is better with the longer track, he never wants to trade back!!

I have over 600 miles on my Warrior up to now and I would definitively buy an another one. I just love it! Very powerful and stable at high speed No more 2 stroke for me! I hope Yamaha will build a smaller (CC wise) and lighter 4 stroke for the wife and kids!

Wow, thanks for all the responses!!
I have always thought the the 136" track did not do much in the bumps? I have only ridden a 121" except for the one time I rode a buddies touring. Isn't it the same 121" skid, but with longer rails? Does the suspension work the same? I don't know, I thought they always rode worse. :?:
Thanks again, I really appreciate it, calling the dealer tomorrow
