last season i {like others}had ice build up go thru a rivet and tear the seat. i brought my seat to my dealer,he sent it to an apolstry shop and it was recovered ,all under warranty.it came out mint.now to prevent this from happening again the dealer said to either fill rivet center with silicone or get some updated rivets for this issue.i chose to go the silicone route.but when i went to fill the rivet i noticed it is not hollow.is covering the rivet head going to be good enough?has anybody ridin last season after going thru this?and with what results?

My dealer fixed mine when they replaced the carb bowls. They drilled out the old rivets and relocated them down about 1/4 in. This is taken from a post by NOS-Pro and should answer your question.

"Seat fix - Yamaha is supplying 2 rivets to each customer with a seat rip problem, so check yours. They were going to install mine, but I have racing to do yet, and they gave me instructions, where I can do it myself. If they ask, it is technical bulletin S2003-012, dated 9/04/03."

My dealer has already given me the bulletin S04-020 and the 2 rivets to replace the existing rivets. It shows that you are to drill out the existing rivets where the rip has taken place and replace them with two new rivets that are 14mm forward and 10mm down. Your dealer should give you everything you need for free. They should also do all the repairs but I wanted to do them myself. I have recieved my new seat cover along with the hood screw updates as well. It took along time but Yamaha came through :D .
