Rx1 won't Idle and takes off and surges to 6,000Rpms

Sweet!

Old girl fires up and purrs like a kitten. Love the sound of the filter kit! Now I can finish gettin her ready for winter. I am going to take her into dealer for carb sync soon. Thanks for all the support!

Right on glad to hear you got it fixed by yourself, way to stick to it. You just saved yourself a pile of cash. ;)! ;)!

Glad to her kitty is running, and the little kitten is going to roar like a Lion when synced :-)

RX1 Carb snc

Took ol girl to get the carbs syncronized, They replaced two needles that were frozen( Stuck and rusted) They syn the carbs, Ran it at 30 degrees and ran very strong. Next day temps around 0 and it had a bad bog? They are asking me about needle adjustment? I thought I read it should not be needed? What do you guys think?

Where is the bog, down low, mid, or WOT top speed?

Low end bog is most likely caused by one or more clogged pilot jets.

Do you have any airbox mods or aftermarked air filters installed? If so what main jets are you running?

Yes, put the ECP kit on with 165 mains, spings and 10 plugs that came with the kit. The shop told me midrange to full throttle bog,...... I think. I found some other post where guys moved needle 1 positon and bog cleared up. I trust my shop Good yamaha guy so I am going to let him tune it.

Good choise, I'm sure he will be able to nail it. Yeah I remember as well that a small change in needle position made a difference, can't remeber what way I went.

No, don't really care to much for them. I took it to Kelly's sport shop in brewer. He is a die hard Yamaha guy and came well recomended by a buddy.

A trick I learned a long time ago was to never make sled configuration changes when you are troubleshooting. Solve the problem at hand first, then make ant desired mods. Doing this makes troubleshooting less complex. But my gluttony for punishment is at a low level. To each their own.

Also, I have noticed when you hit a fuel system with fuel system cleaners, the deposits in the sled are loossened up and ultimately land in the carbs over time. Sometimes, just changing fuel type can also cause the deposits to be released. High concentrations of fuel system cleaner exacerbates the problem to the point of overwhelming the carbs with deposits. Thus, ... The Pilot Jets plug. I even had a main jet fully plugged the last time I hit mine hard with fuel system cleaners.

This year, I have found that I had to clean the carbs 3 times to flush out the deposits. This was the fist time I ever had this problem. This also was the first year I drained the carbs versus leaving them wet. When you drain the carbs, there is a place in the fuel system, where the air makes contact with the fuel. I believe this is where the deposits are formed. Consequently, unless you also drain the fuel lines, this will happen in the fuel lines. If this is in a horizontally oriented fuel line, the potential for deposit formation is very significant. Maybe a fuel shut off valve is warranted. Then draining all fuel from the valve down through the carbs is an answer. ??

Good point Len Todd

I have never drained my carbs and fuel lines before storing the sled, I have never had problems with them clogging up. Only once have I cleaned the pilots, and that was mid season in the sleds first season.

Had the same problem with my 04 Warrior, RPM's hanging up around 4000 and when I turned the idle set screw down I could only get it to stabilize around 1000 RPM with much reduction gear noise :o|

Took the carbs apart, cleaned all the jets, blew compressed air through them etc... put them back on the engine same thing????
IT WASN'T UNTIL I SYNCHED THE CARBS THAT IT WOULD IDLE CORRECTLY.
I think it might have to do with HIGH VACUUM in one or two of the carbs that occurs when your carbs are not properly synched!

The engine will run smoother if properly synced. But, If you are still having idle problems, I'll bet the pilot jets are not fully cleaned. I could see light through mine. But they still gave me a problem until I "rodded" them out.

Thanks to all !

All. Thanks verry much guys for all the help! Got my sled back and put around 200 miles on saturday and the RX1 ran great! Besides having the fuel issue this fall I added the ECP kit. I took it to a local shop to have the carbs syncd and they found some other issues:
- two needles were rusted one stuck open and one stuck closed
- I had removed all jets for cleaning then added the new main jets in the mix and put the wrong jets back in the power jet spot.
- They could not get it to run right, once I showed them the jets I replaced they put them in the right spot and then she ran better.
- Syncd carbs again And now she runs great!
The moral of the story is do one change at a time and move to the next. I know better and thanks to Kelly Sport shop on Orrington Maine for catching my screw up!
The filter kit really wakes that motor up and sounds great too!
Once again, Thanks guys!
