Hey guys,
Looked at an 07 today for purchase. Saw i few things i wasn't sure about.
#1 when I looked under the tunnel, the bottom of the most forward shock in the rear suspension was sitting only a half inch above the track. It seemed really low to me, is that normal?
2# the rear suspension when i pushed it down maybe recoiled back as much as 2 inches, it basically stayed down. It seemed shot to me. What is a reasonable distance it should come back up? what would the fix be, new springs?
#3 the shock inside the a arms seemed kinda far back. I expected them to be almost centered. I couldn't fit a finger between the shock spring and the back part of the a-arm. normal?
#4 is the radiator located under the air filter in the front of the sled? opened the hood only saw an air filter?

I can help out with number 2 a little and 4.
#2 my 08 doesnt recoil all the way but is almost unnoticeable on the trail. It wouldn't even come close to recoil all the way when it was sitting on our dolly because of the way it was resting on it. May need to be rebuilt though.
#4 The radiator is located under the sidepanel next to the oil tank. Its on the throttle side all the way to the front.
Get the vin number and take it to the nearest dealer and have them run it. It will tell you if any factory recalls have been done.

It's normal, seems like the only way I can get it to bounce all the way back up is if I take it apart. Clean it really well. And reassemble and fresh grease. And it does not last long so I don't worry about it.

Mine would stay squatted if i just sat on it in my garage or something, but after a mile or two of riding it would rebound up some. You do want some sag in the sled, about 1/3 of the total suspension movement.

Pump the back up and down about 20 times from the rear bumper. Build some pressure. If your looking at an 07 and the shocks have never been serviced, they should be..

Sounds normal to me. Need to look for broken link or arm and rails. Only way to reliably check shock is to take it out and compress it. You aren't sitting or standing on the rear bumper while riding so how could pushing it down tell you how the sled is going to ride?

To my knowledge a healthy suspension should come back up at least partially after you push it down. I am just trying to avoid purchasing a sled that needs a lot of money thrown at it to get it right. That being said, i am relatively new to snowmobiling and brand new to four strokes and phazers. I have spent countless hours each night on totally yamaha and still learning. thanks for your help thus far.
There is just too many variables to answer your question. Is it on flat ground? Are you compressing it to the bump stops and not just the transfer blocks? Biggest help would be pics.

We have all been concerned with the Phazer rear suspension sag on here. However, I think that the general consensus is that it is normal and not an issue. G.B.

I'll jump on this train. I have owned my Phazer since new and it is an 07'. I just rebuilt and re-valved my skid 2 weeks ago.
#1 when I looked under the tunnel, the bottom of the most forward shock in the rear suspension was sitting only a half inch above the track. It seemed really low to me, is that normal? Yes. Its the nature of the design with the 2ea pivot links. When the link breaks(07')it can cause some problems. I have replaced one already($50). I believe they still offer the link update kit for $350? Ours broke when my son jumped off an unmarked 12ft hill/cliff.

Still have to pull I up the last couple inches. As stated does not affect ride. Can't think of any brand sleds I have had "pop" back up completely.

Since you are looking at 07's I'm assuming most of them will have some mileage and unfortunately it has been my experience that motorized recreational owners
fall into a few categories. Enthusiast=people on this site or in general that maintain, update and love their machines. Hobbyist=people who ride and have general knowledge of their machine but probably only take it to the dealer when things need fixing if money allows. Liars= Waxing and washing your machine but driving it to mechanical ruin and trying to pass it off as "meticulously maintained" to the uninformed.
My unsolicited advice to you is find the best one you can. I looked for an additional Phazer before I bought my Nytro and even some of the used dealer units
were not updated and in rough shape. Look for the obvious signs of abuse and assume that you will have to throw "some" money at it. A lot of these sleds end up in
the hands of teenagers(abuse) and beginners which I'm guessing is due to the price point.
