Both my kids have been on Proaction Phazer 500s the last few seasons. I'm thinking of getting 4 stroke Phazers for them this year. Any major changes over the years that would warrant avoiding prior years?

And a dam Guitar Center ad popped up in this thread on my end and now I just ordered a guitar. LMFAO

Mine has bump stops from Summit Racing for my Duramax that I was looking at a while back... They're watching us :moon::moon::moon:

Phazers were nearly identical past 2007. The 2007 had a number of fixes that were taken care of by Yamaha if you opted for the 5 year YES. 2008 on, they addressed cooling issues, skid component strength etc. But mostly, they were nearly the same.

They dropped the Phazer FX after year one, as it was confusing for the consumer in that they were all in the "FX"chassis. So that to went away. Mostly, you could get a Phazer Standard, GT (trails) RTX (bumps) and MTX (extended track and lug) Then the XTX was released in 144 with 1.5" Freeride. The Venture Lite and MP were a form of 2-up phazer as well with the 500cc twin.

Overall, most will agree (that owned and rode one) that it was a fun sled up to 60mph. Clutching and a 1.5" track would liven it up even further as it had lots of torque in comparison to HP. Many will agree to avoid the Standard for the entry level shocks and lack of reverse. Air shocks of the RTX were hit or miss, but good when setup properly. Many like the coil over clicker shocks. Mine were great once revalved by HyGear and setup for weight.

Most GT's and Standards had a 1" Hacksaw track, where FX and RTX units usually had the ripsaw track.

I do doubt an ounce of plastic has changed in all the years other than color. Same goes for the seat. Skis may have been the same as well, other than the wider MTX skis. Put on a set of Dooley Carbides, and the stockers worked.

Bounce any questions back. But if you are looking at used, run the VIN at a dealership, and they can give you a history of what was done and covered by warranty. This is especially true if you find a deal on a 2007. Proceed with caution, but don't dismiss it altogether.

Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed info!

the 09 rtx i have had the hacksaw stock on it and it sucked even on trail. the up grade to 1-1/2 and 144" was one of the best things i did to it. the rtx sleds where geared the deepest in the chain case as i discovered when i did the long track.

That was a common misconception. The GT/Standard had a 1" track as well as the FX/RTX. But the FX/RTX models were a 14 x 121 x 1.0 Camoplast Rip Saw Probably the only 1" ripsaw I had seen, of course by only 14" wide, it probably was. The paddles were not as squared off as the hacksaw.

Here is the 2010 brochure, where the specs had not changed from previous years. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/brochures/2010_Snowmobile_brochure.pdf

I came across a clean looking 07 that says ran when parked last year but now turns over but won't start. Selling as is for a comparably cheap price. Taking them at their word that it did run when parked what would you guys think could be the issue?

That would be easy to deal with. Might take a chance on it. Ive been surprised they're still selling for the same price my friend picked one up for 6 years ago. I thought they'd be cheaper

Was there a Phazer Extreme model? Came across one with 1500 miles, super clean, that has Phazer Extreme on the graphics. Has floats with Evols. A little more than I wanted to spend but it is like brand new.

I think mine says MTX extreme on one of the stickers, no real special meaning. My cover says four stroke extreme LOL! The jump from a Pro-action to 4s Phazer is huge, both ride and power wise. I still have my 90 Phazer II with an Aaen pipe and a 121"x 1" lug track. The 4 stroke will smoke it from 0-75mph. It takes a good 1/4 mile+ on hard pack for the Ol' Pogo stick to catch up and pass slowly.

That’s right. Stickers didn’t add any HP or make an changes other than looks. The engine is identical in all. That being said, if it has evol’s, someone did a shock upgrade.

I think the first few years of Phazer 4-stroke have bottomed out.
